Crio Based Power Quality Analyzer
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryNowadays, the electrical energy is one of the most important “raw materials” used in industry and Households. Electrical energy is supplied through the transmission and distribution networks to the Customers. During the transmission, there are many external factors that can aggravate the quality of the electrical energy. The device for analysis of quality of electrical energy is called a network Analyzer or power quality analyzer. The proposed power quality analyzer solves the problems faced by companies, operators as well as field technicians. The product promises a low cost power quality analyzer that offers better performance in terms of reading inputs, data processing and data acquisition, wide range of system options with flexible interactions and system properties in accordance with the needs of the customer. The performance criteria of the project is met by the advanced Crio based processor known for its high rates of processing speeds and high bit rates. The flexibility of the product puts a light on the needs of the potential customers; the demanded parameters that are required by the customers. The programming of the product is made such that either a number of more parameters can be demanded by the customer or can also be added by the customer itself. The security and safety of the personnel is guaranteed by the isolation of product from the physical system. The product can be operated remotely from a control room measuring the data and processing comparing all at one safe space. This power quality analyzer promises a low cost due to the fact that all it requires is a simple computer system a Crio system and an operator with simple computer skills. The conventional power quality analyzer available in the market is worth hundreds of dollars on the other hand the proposed system reduces the cost by a considerable percentage of cost. The system is very user friendly with an easy human machine interface with beautiful interfacing screen. Technically the system contains the power indices that are devised by the international regulatory bodies, the power indices include Power frequency, Supply voltage variations, Rapid voltage changes (and Flicker), Voltage dips and swells, Voltage interruptions, Supply voltage unbalance, Harmonic voltages, Interharmonic voltages, Mains signaling voltage on the supply voltage and Rapid voltage changes
Project Objectives- Measure single phase and 3-phase power on balanced loads & from unbalanced loads also, from a single-phase & three phase measurement.
- Analysis of Voltage, Current and Frequency.
- Analysis of active, reactive and apparent Power & Energy.
- Detection of Harmonics (THD %).
- Detection of Voltage Unbalance.
- Analysis of inrush current.
- Detection and severity of Transients.
- Detection of Voltage Sags (Dips)
- Detection of Voltage Swells
- Detection of Voltage Interruptions
- Data Logging (Storing event data for post disturbance analysis)
1) input through ct's and pt's from the real time system
2) acquired input given into Crio system's current and voltage modules
3) model develpoemnt in lab view with integraation of RT software
4) loading of model into Crio system
5) acquring of data from Crio modules
6) analysis of the data through HMI
6) controlling the acquired data and system parametrs
- Measurement of basic quantities (Voltage, current, frequency, Power and their waveforms).
- Detection of different faults that are mostly occur in power system (i.e Harmonics, Unbalancing, inrush current, transients, sags, swells, interruptions etc.).
- Pre_fault detection of some severe faults
- Storing event data for post disturbance analysis
- Prototype development of Power quality analyser with 50% less cost from exiting market product
- For voltage and current measurement, 24 bit cRIO modules NI 9244 with capability of measuring 400 Vrms L-N, 800 Vrms L-L and NI 9247 with capability of measuring 50A rms were used that acquires data at 50,000 samples/sec/channel. The data is then filtered and resampled for conversion in to a fixed number of samples/cycle for power calculations.
- Constructing the model of CRIO based PQA in lab view.
- DAQ interfacing with CRIO hardware.
- Data acquiring with current and voltage transducers from the connected system.
- Data input of acquired data to DAQ hardware for analysis.
- Displaying and calculating the different system parameters “ Rms values of current & voltages “ , “power and energy values “Fault detection based on acquired data values and model “sag ,swell , dips and harmonics ”.
- Displaying the real time results on in the form of waveforms.
- Comparison of previous data with new data for forecasting the faults and logging and storage of data.
