  1. The transportation industry is associated with high maintenance costs, disasters, accidents, injuries and loss of life. Hundreds of thousands of people across the world are losing their lives to car accidents, over speeding and road disasters every year. One of the main causes for accidents all over the world is rash driving. The traffic has increased in many folds but the system of monitoring the speed has been compromised. Rash driving causes severe risk not only to the driver & passenger but also to general public. Despite the fact that rash driving is a serious issue its present detection methods by patrol officers lacks efficiency.
  2. Speed increase multiplies the hazard of accident and the risk of injury during the accidents. At greater speed the vehicle needs a larger distance to stop. The need of hour is to develop a system that will detect and report the over speed of vehicles. According to a World Health Organization report, annually, over 1.2 million people died in the world due to road accidents while in Pakistan, The National Highway & Motorway Police officials have lamented that on average 15000-16000 people die in Pakistan annually due to traffic accidents which mostly occurs due to over speeding and violating traffic rules, for secure and safe drive on motorway we need a quick system to identify area of violation regarding over speed and emergencies but due to the isolated speed detection system the violation of speed cannot be measured between the two transits henceforth it results in number of accidents on motorway Pakistan.
  3. Hopefully, these problem can be addressed by the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence, with the right implementation of IoT technology and Machine learning models, we can mitigate risks, prevent damage, provide security and reduce costs far better than  the existing system for detecting over speeding vehicles . The deployment of smart, connected sensors, cameras and IOT Devices, combined with machine-learning-powered analytics tools and Machine learning models, can enable us to gather information, make predictions and reach decisions through deep learning approach that will make our roads safer and will help us reduce accidents and save precious lives.
  4. The Internet of Things is based on the Internet, network wireless sensing and detection technologies to realize the intelligent recognition using machine learning algorithms through deep learning on the tagged traffic object, tracking, monitoring, managing and processing automatically.
Project Objectives

We aim to design a smart over speed detection system using IOT, Machine Learning and deep learning through which we measure the average speed between two detection points and forwarding it to next point for further calculations to maintain the limit of speed. with the help of entrance and exit point information any uncertainty in-between the region will also be observed. 


Our main Objective includes:

  1. Our system will have connected infrastructure not segregate means we will install cameras and IOT devices between two to four points or more per beat (40km distance) and the implemented IOT devices at those points will send data about the vehicle and its speed to the main server for further processing.
  2. Through Machine learning models and deploying them using deep learning, image processing will be done that will detect the number plate, the vehicle photo and vehicle type and Process vehicle data.
  3. The System will alert the patrolling team whenever accidents, overspeed or any mishap occurs on the basis of the data calculation on the server. 
  4. The System will alert the traffic authorities in case of any speed violation so will charged the respective vehicle automatically.
  5. The System will be Efficient, Cost Effective and affordable far better than the existing system for speed analysis.
  6. Developing a Flutter application mobile friendly for Communication, managing  and accessing the dashboard of the system and receiving notifications . 
  7. Developing a website in addition to Android application too for the main patrolling office and management.
  8. Our System can be also used  for stolen vehicle theft identification, vehicle parking control, and many other law enforcement purposes.
  9. Our System is also best for the case  when the vehicles are allowed to cover a distance in some fixed time like such traditional system is implemented in lahore kallar kahar Motorway so controlling them using our smart approach will be much easy now.
Project Implementation Method

Our Project will have IOT devices, Rasp Pi, Pi cam and one standard CCTV camera, and some other devices installed at a fixed point aside or above the road and the camera facing to the road at each point at some appropriate postion to be used for detecting the vehicles and capturing its number plate and vehicle speed recording and capturing passing vehicle photos for further processing and sending data to the server for taking business decisions on the basis of acquired data

Benefits of the Project

The Benefits of our projects are:

  1. As we know Speed guns or radars on roadways are working in segregation and are very costy  and they cannot measure the average speed between two detection points and only detect the speed of vehicle Infront of it so our system will be working such that it will detect the vehicle and identify it between two points entry and exit point and process it further.
  2. Potential accidents are caused due to over speed moving vehicles on motorway where there are no police speed guns means a lot speed guns are required for safer traffic as the driver speed up the vehicle over the area on motorways having no Speed gun so our system will also detect such vehicles on the basis of average speed concept by comparing the Real distance and speed of the vehicle reducing accidents and saving precious lives by an cost effective affordable system.
  3. The implanted system of finding average speed between two junctions is expensive which is implemented in some countries but not in Pakistan So we will use and make it up to the best level and will be very cost effective.
  4. Our System can be also used  for stolen vehicle theft identification, vehicle parking control, and many other law enforcement purposes.
  5. Our System is also best for the case  when the vehicles are allowed to cover a distance in some fixed time like such traditional system is implemented in lahore kallar kahar Motorway so controlling them using our smart approach will be much easy now.
  6. Our System will digitalize the traditional challan system will save resources and time and will do this digitally in an easy way.
  7. Our System will be able to reduce the accidents and overspeeding on the motorway
Technical Details of Final Deliverable

At the End we will be having IOT enabled smart monitoring overspeed detection system that will do the following funcitonalities:

1) It will keep track of vehicles and store it details like color, photo and number plate which can be used later for taking decisions.

2) Camera and IOT devices will be installed that will capture the vehicle all needed details like color, type and most importantly number plate then thesse IOT devices will send the data to the main server.

3) The main server or system will be having all the Code done to deal with the data, having All the distances, Speed Zones of specefic areas over the motorway and All relevent details including google map, so when the main system receive the same vehicle info from any of the two points then it will calculate the Average speed of the vehicle.

4) The main system of our project will then process and analayze and send the final decison to the patrolling officer either the vehicle was normal between the points or overspeeded through Mobile App the Patrolling officer will be informed about all these details of overspeed violation so he may or may not give challan to the vehicle passing by him. The data can ba also transffered to Our website for further data analytics and implementation to analyze the vehicle accurately.

5) All these thing will be happen over the internet connection with the help of all these connect IOT devices

6)  At the final stage either the challan will be issued to the passing vehicle by pattroling officer based on his overspeeding or the vehicle data can be kept for later business decsions or can be deleted once the vehicle is passed normally but we will try to capture and store as much data as we can

7) Now everything is done and overspeeding is controlled through IOT and Digital Challan are Issued with the Help of Average Speed Concept thats all.
