The main aim of the project Accident detection and messaging system is to the ambulance and police of the accident site and arrange for necessary steps to control the situation.

This system is not only efficient but also worthy to be implemented the Accident detection and messaging system can be fitted in the vehicle (Ambulance or the Police) and they are informed about any such untoward Incident at the go accident detection and messaging system execution is Simple as the system makes use of GSM and GPS technologies.

GPS is used for taking the coordinates of the site of accident while GSM is Used for sending the coordinates to cellphones to make this process all Controls are made using RASPBERY PI whereas an LCD is used to display the Coordinates.

Project Objectives

  • Our main objective is to minimize the accidents response time when an accident occurs and the time emergency responders reach the accident scene in reducing human death due to road accident.
  • The victim is relieved from the manual labour required in contacting his near and dear ones and medical services on his own.
  • The victim does not have to be dependent on the passengers passing by.
  • Provide a system that is fully automated to help vehicle occupants even when they are incapacitated and subconscious.
  • Exploiting the capabilities offered by vehicular communication technologies.
  • Increase safety of road users and comfort of passengers.
  • It will be easy to provide the victim with the quick medical aid even in hilly areas, national highways or in remote areas where it is very difficult to locate an accident spot.
  • Its low and affordable cost makes it economically feasible.

Project Implementation Method

  • We propose a new method in which the vehicular body will be equipped/embedded with sensors all around it which would sense the impact in the accident, and then will send the readings to the MCU which will process the readings and in case if the readings are above the predefined threshold values it will set up an alarm which would run for 10 seconds to avoid sending SMS to the services in case of any false accident or if the driver is safe. In case if the alarm not switched off would send a Text message containing the current whereabouts of the vehicle along with its registration number and the owner’s name to the nearest medical service Centre along with to the two numbers provided by the Vehicle owner to be contacted in case of any emergency.
  • The Prototype of this Accident Detection and information passing technique uses the following steps:
  • 1. The Complete Setup is depicted in the form of block diagram.
  • 2. Piezoelectric sensor detects the first occurrence of the accident and it is intimated to the MCU.
  • 3. The Latitude and Longitude are detected using GPS and it is sent as message to the rescue team through GSM.
  • 4. The message receiver number is pre stored in the EEPROM.
  • 5. A OFF Switch is also provided at times of need to avoid false message.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The power consumption and money saving aspects are considered it is in turn a low power consuming and a much cost-effective device which in turn has no negative effect on the vehicle’s performance and is easily deployable in it.

This device is also having an alternate approach, SATCOM, for the reporting procedure for the cases in which user’s phone get damaged during the accident. We tried to check the system’s reliability numerous times and in most of the cases the results obtained were quite accurate.

Government can make this device as a mandatory safety measure to be opted by every vehicle manufactures which will solve this problem more efficiently.

Hence, this device acts like an enhancement to the vehicle’s capability and makes the user more secured in today’s scenario which is full of increasing death rate in road accidents caused due to lack of immediate medical help on the spot of the accident. there is also some weakness of this device which can be removed with the help of some future works like the user must have to possess a smartphone with him with the required app installed in it and also have a problem of sending the emergency message to the number already registered previously which means if the new driver comes, he have to save his new information again in the device for the device to work for his safety.
