Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummarySmart Parking system is about automating the parking system by deploying an IOT module on the parking site to monitor the status of available parking slots. A mobile & web application will be developed for end-users to access information (available parking slots) related to parking.
Project Objectives1) Getting data from ultra-sonic sensor to raspberry pi for letting driver know available parking slots.
2) Reading text from number plate of vehicle for identification of vehicles in our system via camera using OCR (optical character recognition).
3) Sending the collected data from sensor and camera to server from raspberry pi which will be deployed on parking site and processing that data into useful information.
4) Mobile application from which users can visualize the information regarding parking area.
Project Implementation MethodThe project will be implemented on Raspberry Pi using ultrasonic sensors and a camera.
OCR(object character recognition) technique for identifying text from vehicle number plates.
Cloud server for retrieving data from Raspberry pi.
Mobile application.
Suitable database for IoT server.
Benefits of the Project1) Finding parking space in a densely populated area would waste time and consumes fuel during searching for parking space. So to avoid such problems, this system would communicate the availability of parking slots.
2) Traffic congestion control.
3) Less human efforts to manage parking spaces.
4) There would be no manual record-keeping for the parking space.
Technical Details of Final Deliverable- We are going to develop IoT based smart parking system with mobile and web applications.
- When a vehicle enters to parking space there will be an e-receipt for the driver in a mobile application with all the necessary information for a vehicle to be parked.
- The mobile applications will guide the user to park the vehicles with ease.
- For exit, a total bill will be generated according to the number of hours the vehicle parked and the category of vehicle.
