2D CNC Based LASER Engraver
Project Area of Specialization 3D/4D PrintingProject SummaryModern world is turning into a new age of technology and advancement. Old conventional CNC machines are heavy and difficult to transport providing a less accurate and precise work according to the modern era. Our project relates with the idea of engraving, cutting, and image printing on hardware using ecofriendly methods of laser working using less amount of electrical power and also with the novelty of portable handy machines for workers to work and transport. Idea emerges with the folding of one axis with accordance to other axis, havig the size of a 1.5 by 1.5 feet CNC machine. Using stepper motors and tooth pulley we précised the motion of laser. By this laser CNC we are engraving on objects with varying height. Image engraving and printing is done by open source soft wares of Inkscape and Universal G-code sender. Final project is working and providing a great deal of precision and engraving on a vast variety of objects.
Project ObjectivesAIMS AND OBJECTIVES
- Portable Design.
- Homing
- To engrave on an object
- Laser Power Adjustment
Portable Design:
Our one of the greatest challenge was to build a CNC machine that is portable and easy to use. Our project deals with a design that is handy to transport and provides a great deal of precision. Along with the working on relatively larger workspace than the ones conventionally available.
Homing:
In homing the tool adjust its position by re-setting the motors to the initial positions and getting the tool back to the starting point.
Actuation:
Once the device is homed the tool must be repositioned within the frame to keep it on the plan. It can be done by dividing it into two parts.
- Control challenge.
- Mechanical challenge.
Laser Power Adjustment:
Power of laser can be adjusted according to the material and purpose. As in case of cutting more power is used then engraving. Also engraving on different objects uses different amount of enough energy to do the work hence allowing us to save energy intelligently.
Project Implementation MethodFirst of all, image or the word to engrave is fed to Inkscape open source software.
- This software then creates a temporary GUI (graphical user interface) .A second open source software Universal G-Code sender is also used in the working.
- UGS loads the GUI file and commands stepper motors.
- UGS is also used at the same time to command the laser to engrave.
- UGS is used to manually home the machine using button interface preinstalled in it.
- After the engraving machine automatically home itself.
- It is less damaging compare to other rays.
- Reduced Cost due to less wearing
- High speed data input
- Increased Productivity due to less machining time.
- Huge variety due to power adjustment.
- Ease of Customization.
- Improved Life Quality & Welfare
- Less waste
- No input is required other than specification.
- Using conventional methods to machine hard metals and alloys means increased demand of time and energy and therefore increases in costs. Conventional machining method waste a lot of material during fabrication and as the complexity increases, the cost also increases.
-
Devise a method which allows us to fabricate objects with very less material wastage and printing complex structures on objects with relatively greater precision and less time at the same time while being cost and energy efficient.
