Project Summary

A prototype "IOT Based Smart Kitchen" enables the user to get notifications when the amount of spices like red chilies, sugar, salt, pulses etc. falls below the threshold level defined by user. User also gets notifications regarding gas leakage and excess of smoke inside the kitchen. Users can mark multiple grocery store locations that they often visit for shopping. The system reminds the user to purchase the items that have fallen below the threshold value when they are passing by a particular grocery store. User can add items which they want to buy in their wish list and will get the notification regarding nearby grocery store. The system can detect the weather and suggest dishes according to the weather. System monitors and analyzes the amount of spices used and generates a weekly usage report. Multiple sensors are used in the system to gather real time data.

Project Objectives

The aim and objectives of the project are to:

1- Provide information about leftover ingredients in the kitchen to the user.

2- Notify user about gas leakage to respond appropriately.

3- Remind user about timely shopping of ingredients.

4- Generate weekly usage report of the ingredients.

5- Facilitate user to create their wish list for shopping.

Project Implementation Method

The system consists of different sensors (Load cell, Smoke and Gas)  connected to HX-711 which connects all these sensors to Arduino mega board. The Arduino board is connected to Nodemcu. Sensors collect real time data from kitchen’s environment. Nodemcu send data to the firebase cloud for storage. An android application accesses this data and either responds or generate alerts accordingly. Load cell sensor is used for monitoring the quantity of ingredients. Mq-2 sensor is used for detecting the presence of smoke while Mq-5 sensor is used for detecting the leakage of gas. Whenever amount of an ingredient falls belows a specific limit, the system generates shopping list. It reminds user about the shopping of that list when the user  is near to store by detecting current location with the help of Google Maps API. The system also detects current temperature of the city of  the user with the help of Weather API and suggest dishes on the basis of weather.

Benefits of the Project

IOT has changed the life of human beings. Remote connection to the home gateway is present in the given system. Smart Kitchen helps family members to monitor kitchen anytime from anywhere just from their smartphones. In this busy life if a person forgets to buy a missing ingredient or a specific item the system  reminds the user when near to store. It also reduces the danger by monitoring gas and smoke presence efficiently. .
