Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThe project focuses on building a smart home security, safety and automation system which can
control each and every object of a home by using internet through mobile phone. It should also
collect data related to security to avoiding theft, robbery or any other type of invasion, safety
from Hazards like Electrical hazards, and atmospheric conditions like temperature, humidity, fire
or smoke etc.
Personal security was main idea behind designing the application which denies unauthorized
access to facilities, equipment and resources, and to protect personnel and property from damage.
Physical security uses multiple interdependent systems which include CCTV surveillance
smart locks, access controls, live camera streaming on android application and some other
techniques.
Wireless Home security and automation are main aspects of this project. We plan to build a
prototype of the system that sends alerts to the owner. If fire or smoke or any sort of human
movement is sensed near the entrance of house it send the SMS to user’s mobile as well as the
notification to user’s mobile application so that he can view the live footage of his CCTV
cameras. On the other hand if the owner identifies that the person entering his house is not an
intruder but an unexpected guest then instead of triggering the security alarm, the user/owner can
make arrangements such as opening the door, switching on lights or turning up music inside the
house to welcome his guest, all of this is connected and controlled by the micro-controller in the
system. By virtue of this system he can remotely make arrangements from his doorstep such that
as soon as he enters house he can make himself at full comfort without manually having to
switch on the electrical appliances. This system will also monitor the illegal activities with the
help of CCTV surveillance with help of android application. So using the same set of sensors the
problems of home safety, security and automation can be solved.

Working of prototype:
- As a smart security system:
A PIR motion sensor is installed at the entrance of a building. This sensor detects the motion of human beings and will send the sms to owner over GSM module as well as will send the notification over owner’s android application. The owner, who may or may not be present in that building, will be able to easily check the live streaming of his CCTV cameras through his android application.
A fingerprint door lock system is used at main door which will also notify the owner that who entered the house along the time. - As a smart safety system:
There are some sensors which connected to provide the safety such as Smoke detector is used to detect the smoke and will notify the user and buzzer will be triggered, Fire sensor is used to detect the fire, it will also notify owner, trigger the buzzer and start the water pump in order to extinguish the fire. Dht 11 is used to monitor the temperature and humidity. - As a smart automation system:
Ldr is used to automate the lights if the intensity of light decreases by given value. Fan will be automatically turned on if the temperature exceeded from the given value. The lights and fan can also be turned on through android application.
