Implementation of Security Algorithms for Cellular V to X on FPGA

Project Area of Specialization Cyber SecurityProject Summary

Vehicle to Vehicle communication (V2V) is the need of a new era in which the concept of smart cities is introduced. It will be used to increase road safety, traffic management and driver comfort; but it is also important to increase the security and reliability of V2V communication. To increase the security of V2V communication different algorithms are used such as AES (Advance Encryption Standard), Snow 3G, ZUC. V2V Communication is based on 5G and requires low latency security decoders. Hardware implementation of these algorithms is one of the main challenges. The scope of this project is to implement an architectural design of existing security algorithm for V2V communication, which is capable to validate the real-time constraints of such algorithms.

Project Objectives

This project will present a comparative study or analysis of these three cryptographic algorithms. This comparison will be based on different factors which provide valuable information about security in vehicle communication.Implementation of our designed algorithms for security on FPGA will show the real-time analysis.

Project Implementation Method

Along with communication, security is also one of the main pillar of V2V communication. Security is the major concern for the devices which are using V2V communication protocol because in V2V Communication information is transferred wirelessly, this information can easily be hacked so it must be secured. Without security, V2V communication is not humanly feasible. In V2V communication security is being provided through Cryptographic algorithms. Advanced encryption Algorithm (AES), SNOW 3G and ZUC are main cryptographic algorithm used as security algorithms.

These three sets of cryptographic algorithms works on fourth Generation (4G) technology and each set based on core algorithms. In this project we will focus on the parameters of fifth generation (5G) technology.

Benefits of the Project

Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications comprises a wireless network where automobiles send messages to each other with information about what they’re doing. This data would include speed,

Location, and direction of travel, braking, and loss of stability.  V2V communication technology can increase the performance of vehicle safety system and help to save lives. This technology will provide drivers with the tools they need to anticipate potential crashes and significantly reduce the number of lives lost each year.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

In this project we will use cryptographic algorithms to ensure security of V2V communication .we will implement architectural design these algorithms on hardware (FPGA) to validate the real-time constraints of such algorithms.
