IoT based COVID Health monitoring system (MONOVID)
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThe whole world is in chaos right now. There was a time when every person at any happy occasion be it Eid or Christmas use to hug and greet each other merrily. But now a person falls into serious dilemma just for a simple handshake. The reason for this reluctance is COVID19.It has turned our lives upside down to the point that we have become paranoid. A mild fever and cough feel like a death sentence to us. The fear of dying or a relative dying has clutched our heart very tightly. All in all, COVID19 has negative impact on our lives. Hence, it is our responsibility as citizen to make every possible effort to help COVID-19 patients, doctors and mostly to prevent corona virus from spreading.
IOT (Internet Of Things) can be adapted to avoid corona virus from expanding. IOTis a bridge that connects physical device and internet, mostly those devices that can record and monitor.
We have exclusive CVOID19 isolation centers arranged for COVID patients for their treatment. As COVID is extremely contagious, it is very crucial for doctors to observe health of COVID patients. But sometimes it is very hard to keep track on well-being of quarantined patient as number of cases are keep escalating.
At present situation, in any city or country it is very compulsory for doctors to consistently inspect patient’s health. And at same time doctors are at risk of catching the transferrable disease just for examining the patient. Hence, we will develop a system with help oof IoT that can monitor a COVID-19 positive patient health vitals (such as blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, oxygen saturation)and send the results to doctor connected at other hand over internet. An alert button is also present to send instant message to doctor in case of emergency.
Hence, this project helps patients to lead a comfortable life and doctors to observe patients without getting infection.
Project ObjectivesFollowing are objectives of proposed framework:
- To provide a content life for COVID patients in quarantine.
- To minimize unnecessary hassle of visiting hospitals.
- To develop a collaboration between patient and doctor.
- To inform doctor about patient’s wellbeing in case of dangerous situation.
We will create a remote IOT COVID health monitor system that permits supervising of several COVID patients over internet. This system is mainly operated by a microcontroller. We will use Arduino MEGA as microcontroller. This Arduino will gather information about COVID patient’s heath vitals (mainly blood pressure, heartbeat rate, temperature, and oxygen saturation.) using several sensors.
Later, this obtained data will be transferred to mobile application through an IOT Wi-Fi module where we can picture the collected data. Doctors can remotely monitor the health condition of patient by using this mobile application and advice a treatment based on recorded data.
In extreme case, an emergency push button is also provided in this system which will send an alert to doctor if the health of patient worsens.
Benefits of the ProjectFollowing are the benefits of IOT COVID-19 health monitoring system:
- It saves spots in ICU unit of hospitals/quarantine centers for more dangerous COVID-19 cases.
- It prevents corona virus from spreading.
- It reduces administrative(governmental) cost and time.
- It helps to maintain social distancing by keeping COVID-19 patient safe and healthy at home.
- Patient's health vitals are stored in cloud. Hence, data loss risk is minimal as compare to records on printed paper or pen derives.
The final product is an IOT COVID-19 health monitoring system. The system produces a device which keeps a check on a patient's vital signs mainly blood pressure, temperature, heartbeat, and oxygen saturation using various sensors connected to an Arduino(microcontroller). The result of these sensors is displayed and saved on mobile application via a WIFI and gateway module. The doctor signs into the system and monitor the patients’ health vitals. Doctor suggests a treatment, or a prescription based on accumulated data. In this way a mutual correspondence is created between the end user(patient) and doctor that benefits both the parties. Though our system is made for patients, but it can also be used for monitoring of team players of any game (cricket, football etc.).
