Project Title

Implementation of a GPS Spoofer to Control Hostile UAVs

Project Area of Specialization

Internet of Things

Project Summary

Keeping in view the latest technology for counter-terrorism like UAVs, a counter measure has to be developed in case the technology is misused. An effective measure against UAVs is GPS Spoofing, previously the UAV was simply shot down by spoofing it we will be able to keep our state safe while also talking control of the foreign technology present in the UAV which can be reverse engineered to help us gain an edge over all those who try to attack us.

The project involves a demonstration of a drones guided by GPS being overpowered by means of a GPS signal locally simulated by means of a Software-Defined Radio. It will act as a proof of concept that GPS spoofing can be used to control a drone.

Project Objectives

Project Objective include:

i)Simulation of GPS satellite signals in software.

ii)Implementation of a GPS transmitter (for spoofing applications) using suitable SDR.

iii)Proof-of-concept spoofing demonstration of a GPS receiver over drone.

Project Implementation Method

Project will be implemented by simulating a GPS signal locally by use of an Software-Defined Radio and GNU Radio application.

Benefits of the Project

This project will serve as a proof of concept that a GPS spoofing attack can be implemented and by simply upsizing and with minor modifications it can be turned into a defense asset which will be highly benificial.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Final deliverable will be transmission of a locally produced signal containing ranging codes and navigation data using binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) with quadrature amplitude modulation.

A SDR will transmit the signal to all available devices in it's range at a frequency of 1575.42 GHz.
