Project Summary

The Healthcare industry is one of the oldest industries and the basic administrative structure has also become extinct and there are some issues that doctors and patients often face like long waiting hours to see doctor, high appointment cost, repeated follow up appointments results in travelling expenses. It needs a new and modern approach if we want to optimize our operations and reduce waiting time. So there comes our mobile app in play remodeling the existing structure using innovative technology which will eliminate the waiting time and redundant operations. A platform that connects patients, doctors, clinics, and eases their lives.

Project Objectives

Around 1 year ago someone close in our family had to go through some medical procedures, so there I happened to meet a lot of patients and got to listen to their problems, where they were coming from, what they were facing and every person had somewhat same problems that cost is very high, doctors do not consult us for long and do not fully explain us the problem. We have to come again and again from our hometowns and wait for hours in the line just to hear the doctor say that everything seems fine for now you can go back and come again after some weeks for a follow-up checkup. Therefore, due to these things, both patients and doctors face difficulty in this process. If we divide it specifically for patients and doctors it would look like:

• • Unavailability of new job opportunities
  • Long working hours (due to the monopoly of hospitals)

  • Limited help in underprivileged areas

So we are making this project (mobile app) to solve all these problems so that we can give the people of Pakistan easy and affordable access to a doctor from home.

Project Implementation Method

To create the seamless GUI, we will be using Flutter for the frontend and .Net will be used to create the backend. Other technologies like WebRtc to help us with the video and voice calling. With firebase authentication, we would implement OTP authentication to secure the app and get the users mobile number and we will be able to implement OAuth to seamlessly transfer data between our different services with the security for not anything to be exposed to anyone easily.

These things will be done according to the plan available in the timeline section.

Features would include:

• OTP Authentication (on signup and sign in every time for both patients and doctors)
• Video & Voice Call (using WebRtc for patients they can consult doctors online through this)
• Push Notifications (patients can receive notification relating marketing, message from doctor, appointment confirmation)
• Chat (for patients to talk to doctors)
• Doctor verification from PMC (Pakistan Medical Council) (while signup doctor will add their PMC license number and we would develop a api to verify it from their website)
• Appointment Booking (for patients they can book doctor’s appointment on app)
• Able to Search doctors on filters (distance, specialty, area, hospital etc.)
• Payment gateway (depends upon third party)

Benefits of the Project

Pakistan’s population is 216 million approx. of which close to 60% is youth so the remaining 40% includes aged people and children of which almost everyone needs at minimum one doctor visit in one to two years. *(World Bank - 2019) and the average life span in Pakistan is just 67 years which adds to the fact that not only the old aged and children but even teens and adults do not have good health and must visit doctors for the problems they have. *(World Bank- 2019). Other than these numbers we also have other numbers that very clearly show us the picture, Polio is still present in our country, high numbers of cases of hepatitis, TB, Heart problems, and Cancer 10-15 years back Cancer was not that common but now every other day we get to know that someone has cancer. 

Another survey conducted by the British Medical Journal in 2017 showed that Doctors in Pakistan give just 1.79 minutes per patient - the lowest time given to patients in the world. Therefore, we concluded that all the above numbers prove that our healthcare system is already burdened and overwhelmed. We need a lot more hospitals, doctors, and an up to the mark healthcare system to treat all these patients. Adding to that these numbers are just from the main areas of our country that remain in limelight there are a lot of areas in our country which are highly neglected due to their socio-economic conditions. If we include that, it would be safe to say that a significant percentage of the population has some disease and millions of people go to see doctors and visit hospitals every month. But hospitals and clinics alone in just three cities of a country of 216 million people cannot handle the load. So, there needs to be an innovative way to solve these problems and create a win-win situation for everyone. This project will solve all these problems and will benefit the people who are suffering from these problems like consulting doctors online and booking appointments to save money, time, and hassle just at your fingertips. Doctors can work from anywhere, any day, and anytime there is no limitation whatsoever with that get a chance to earn more money and maintain a professional relationship with your patient without giving your numbers or WhatsApp every communication will be done on the app.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

We will give a mobile app seamless with a GUI interface where you can consult with doctors online and book appointments to save money, time, and hassle just at your fingertips. There would be OTP signup and sign-in for both patients and doctors, patients will be able to book appointments and consult with doctors online through video, voice calls and chat for any queries. Patients can receive notifications (marketing, message from doctors, appointment confirmation). After signup doctors would be verified from the PMC website. Patients would be able to search doctors in their locality.
