Project Summary

Hand gesture recognization system has brought many advantages and growth towards technology and mankind. Many people rely on home automation for security and comforts. It also helps those people who are unable to perform daily activities which predominantly include old age , deaf and dumb &physical disable people. Thus a home automation system is built that would bring these people close and also help them for their better growth. The system is developed and tested successfully with an android device. The system uses an android application for taking the gesture as an input which is then transfer of the microcontroller via bluetooth after processing the image and comparing with save gestures. Therefore old age people and also those who are disabled in the sense such that they cannot perform activities well can efficiently control appliances comfortably.

Project Objectives

Following are the objectives of hand gesture recognization system:

• To convert gesture of deaf ,dumb and physically disabled  person into controlling loads.
• Design and implementation of hand gestures recognition system to control electric loads.
• Develop a low cost assertive device.

Project Implementation Method

Following are the brief details of implementation method of hand recognization system:

Mobile camera is connected to Pic microcontroller  via Bluetooth and used to capture the image of hand gesture from the disable person.

The Application installed in mobile will process gesture and then it will passes an appropriate signal to the Pic controller via Bluetooth module.

The bluetooth modules will receive this data and will give a command to microcontroller to operate Ac loads through relay.

Following are the brief discussion on benefits of hand gesture recognization system:

• Hand gesture recognition is one of the latest innovative technologies that can make the process of using many smart devices a lot easier. The device where this technology is implemented uses sensors that are capable of monitoring the user’s movement, detecting it and responding to a particular one with the appropriate output. The gesture recognition technology can also be found in smart homes, shopping malls, smart TV and many other devices.

Hand-gesture applications provide three advantages over conventional human machine interaction systems:

• Touchless interfaces are especially useful in healthcare environments; Overcoming physical handicaps.
• Control of home devices and appliances for people with physical handicaps and/or elderly users with impaired mobility.
• Exploration of large complex data volumes and manipulation of high-quality images through intuitive actions benefit from 3D interaction, rather than constrained traditional 2D methods.
