Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryPublic Transportation System have received much attention in recent years in academia, and standardization entities due to their wide impact on people’s life as their scope to provide required applications and services to improve transportation safety and mobility and to optimize the usage of available transportation resources and time. When travelling with buses, the passengers want to know the predicted bus arrival time at the bus stop. This will generate predictions of transport arrivals at stops along the route. This application uses a variety of technologies to track the locations of transport in actual time. This application ensures security by providing the control over enterance and exit of students from the school bus. The system automatically detects when a child enters or exits the bus and issue an alert message when child doesn’t enter or exit the bus to reduce the parent’s concerns about using the bus for the daily transport of their children without being lost or forgotten.

System will be developed as an Android application. Recently, the demand for developing public transportation system using GPS technologies have increased. The system tracks the bus at any location at any time. This system is more user friendly for users to get information visually shown on Google Map. User can freely get this application for real time tracking of bus which provide interactive interface environment. So by using this application user can just wait or they may reschedule their journey according to the availability of bus. In our system, the Open Street Maps plays a major rule during monitoring, visualization and identifying the maximum allowed speed for each road segment along with the traveled route. Ongoing work is to enable the system for supporting online tracking and monitoring services, by using mobile data networks. This application also helps to notify parents when buses are arriving to eliminate unnecessary waiting time and notify parents when children step in and step off from the school bus using RFID Technology.
Benefits of the ProjectPeople will get to reach their destinations timely due to less traffic. Fuel consumption will be less and economy rate of our country will get benefit for balance of payment. People will not get to wait standing on the bus stop. On the other hand; regarding child tracking system; parents will get relief and satisfaction by getting their children's real time location. And as a whole it will provide security to every user.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThis application is designed and implemented based on hardware and software using Android based mobile application. A methodology based on combination of GPS and RFID modem is discussed to help the people who utilize the public transportation for traveling. The user is provided with the information about the current location of nearest buses approaching the stop. Further details are already given in Implementation Method.
