FPGA Based Energy Efficient Street Lighting System
Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryLight Emitting Diode (LED) lamp is new lighting technology used over the world, its high efficiency, low power consumption, dimming capability, long lifetime, environmental friendly and much more advantages make it preferred source in new outdoor and indoor lighting systems. The method of time-control is used to manage the power consumption of an LED using Verilog program and implement the design using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) /Spartan 3AN starter kit. Dimming scenarios are implemented to reduce the power consumption of LED, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique is used as dimming method and based on real time clock designed using (Verilog) program and was implemented on the same FPGA kit.
Project Objectives1. To establish a system that reduce the power consuption in the street lights.
2. To establish an intelligent street lighting system equipped with vehicle presence sensors.
3. To establish a system to make road safe and lightened.
Project Implementation MethodThe project implomention depend upon verilog program. we use to sensors (PIR SENSOR & LDR SENSOR) at input of ADC of FPGA.
Day time when LDR sense light then the leds at output remain OFF. At night time when LDR sense no light and then PIR sensor check any movement of vehicle then it check the vehical speed. if speed is below the threshold value then lights turn ON slowly if speed is greater then threshold value then leds trun ON quickly. The brightness control by PWM method . In slack time at night leds remain OFF.
Benefits of the Project1. High speed system less chance of fault
2. ASIC design (small chip design for street lighting)
3. FPGA base with parallel program (at same time number of tasks done)
4. precise and acurate working of street lights
5. no chance of chip demageFI
Technical Details of Final DeliverableFinal deliverble will be prototype of FPGA based energy efficient street light sysmtem.
