The designed approach can be adopted by different vehicle manufacturers within a country and across the world, to upgrade the vehicles safety and to cope with increasing demands of customers’ life safety. The system can aid intelligence to the vehicles and improves visibility distance perception of the drivers, who often face accidents due to overestimating the visibility distance, by sending them real time notification about obstacles or vehicles going ahead of them. The system is based on proactive approach rather than reactive approach after life losses and vehicle damage, the solution is over all highly admired and accepted in Pakistan vehicle manufacture Industry, for proper commercialized setup this can boost Pakistan’s local & export potential economy, create jobs in vehicle and automobile manufacturing industry. The solution's objectives are as under: 1. Fog Detection and Visibility Distance Estimation System (FDVES) will provide following benefits: - To reduce the number of vehicle accidents by using vision sensor and speedometer which are attached to IoT based Fog detection and Visibility Distance Estimation System. The system alerts the drivers to regulate vehicle speed in foggy weather because sometime drivers overestimate the visibility distance in hazy environment and over speed the vehicle.
- To provide proactive approach to drivers for driving in smoggy environment. Fog is an accumulation of water droplets or ice-crystals accompanied by hygroscopic, water-saturated fine particles that reduces visibility. We design a smart fog detection and visibility distance estimation system that uses sophisticated computer vision techniques and Artificial Neural Network to assist drivers to avoid chances of accidents and drive vehicle safely in foggy environment.
- To provide passenger and vehicle safety. Heavy fog is observed in Pakistan especially in Punjab province due to different factors of pollution. The number of traffic accidents has significantly increased due to fog. The accidents not only damage vehicles but also take thousands of precious lives. To solve this problem, we design IoT based system which utilizes modern technologies of computer vision and artificial neural network to guide drivers in foggy environment.
- To decreases mortality rate and additional medical expenses. The designed system decreases number of accidents and improves the drivers’ perception of visibility distance. The decrement in number of accidents decreases mortality rate and avoids vehicle damage. Henceforth, medical expenses due to accidents are reduced.
- We will make our own company with this product. We can also create jobs.
- We will sale this product to Local vehicle manufacturers of Pakistan and international vehicle manufactures because price of product will be cheap, we can also sale this product to those countries which are under develop.

The system employs modern technologies like IoT, Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence. The technical flow of proposed project will be as under; - On physical layer speedometer and high definition camera will be used to measure the vehicle speed and to sense the environmental attributes such as vertical luminance and fog.
- Microcontrollers will be used to collect those sensing data from motion and vision sensors; and then transfer the collected data to cloud.
- Secure gateway will be used to establish reliable & authorized connectivity between physical and cloud layer.
- The cloud will be employed to hold the information about foggy environment and vehicle speed, which is transferred by IoT devices such as microcontrollers.
- Sophisticated Computer Vision techniques will be applied on the collected image data to detect fog and estimate the visibility distance following the well-known Law of Koschmieder.
- Efficient algorithm of Artificial Neural Network will be trained on the collected images and vehicle speed in order to predict the chances of accident. The notification is sent to drivers about prediction about chances of accidents, which asset them to regulate their vehicle speed and thus, they avoid vehicle accident.
- The prediction about chances of accidents will help drivers to manipulate the speed of vehicle accordingly and avoid the excessive over speed due to overestimation of visibility distance in smoggy environment.
- Real-time alert will be sent to drivers pertaining to driving environmental information.
