Public speaking is an important skill in personality development. A lot of people undergo multiple challenges when it comes to public speaking. The main idea of the project is to develop a speech coach android application using VR technology. It will help to overcome the difficulties faced by people while public speaking. The scope of the project includes the analysis of speech to detect and indicate the use of filler words, pauses, and calculation of pace (word count per minute). The application is also intended towards helping people to prepare for their interviews by answering random questions through voice asked by the application. People feel nervous and undergo a lot of pressure before their presentations, interviews etc. The application will also provide the feature of meditative exercises and activities to help users overcome their fear mentally. The project involves the use of VR technology to provide an experience which is close to reality. The virtual reality headset will be used to simulate the scenarios of presentation and interview to help user get a sensation of real situations. The project will have a positive impact on individuals and society. It will help individuals in building selfconfidence. The project will face language limitation. The application will operate only on English language. The development of the project will follow agile methodology. It will follow a continuous and iterative approach. The estimated completion time of project is the last week of December, 2021.

The rationale behind the project is to provide a personal speech coach application to users to help them overcome their fear and improve their public speaking skills. The project will meet the following objectives:

Project Implementation Method

The development of the project will be based on agile methodology. It will allow the developers to use continuous iterative approach throughout development process. The agile technique will help in evolving the project in each iteration and testing it concurrently. It will help in making any required changes in the project and in incremental development. The project development will follow a top-down strategy to gain a detailed perspective of the system. The implementation method of project will start from requirements gathering and proceed towards designing, development, and testing of the project. The VR headset will be connected with the android application. This strategy allows decomposition of a complex problem into smaller segments. It will help project development team in problem-solving.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

• To develop the “Fluencio” app, speech API of Microsoft Cognitive Services and Google API will be used. The application will take user’s voice input and with the help of API speech analysis will be performed for converting the speech into text.
• To detect the filler words from the speech “Hidden Markov Model” will be used. Hidden Markov Model is embedded in CMU Sphinx toolkit.
• VR headset equipment will provide a virtual environment of audience.
• Using a VR headset, the users will be completely immersed in the environment where they will be able practice public speaking for an interview, a meeting room etc.
• This android application will be developed on Android Studio IDE.
