Project Area of Specialization Artificial IntelligenceProject SummaryEvery year due to climate change like other countries Pakistan remains on high alert of flooding. According to UK organization DEC Emergency fund, at its worst the flood waters covered roughly one-fifth of Pakistan’s land area, affecting 18 million people, destroying or damaging 12 million people’s homes, destroying 2.2 million hectares of crops, 450,000 of livestock lose, destroying thousands of school and above all killing 1985 people in 2010 only. Collectively these numbers are growing.
As mentioned above during floods thousands of hectares of land is being covered with water destroying land communication with affected area, and hence creating extreme hindrance in rescues of people. In the current scenario there is an urgent requirement of a technology in Pakistan for rescue and evacuation of Peoples during these flooding.
In our project we are working to develop such a technology through which surveillance drone images will be processed using a developed algorithm to detect the survivals of flood which will help recuse team to act in a targeted area effectively, which will ultimately lead to expedition of rescue operation and decrease in loss of life.
Project ObjectivesThe aim of this project is to develop a system which can detect human in flooded areas through images captured by drone. For aforementioned aim following will be the objectives.
- To use deep learning algorithms and try to select the best.
- Perform experiments on a data set and compare proposed algorithm with existing ones.
- To use dataset with more number of images for training and testing of system to get better results.
In this project the methodology for implementation will follow below given flow diagram

In the final deliverable of the project, A Software system will be in full working condition for processing of dataset of images via deep learning algorithms. The system will make use of captured drone images and help detect the flood survivals.
