Project Summary

Face-Pass Security System aims to be a hassle-free facial recognition security system for organizations. The system will detect and identify authorized people and will alert the user if an unauthorized person is detected. The interface will be designed with simplicity in mind for ease of use with no compromises on the said functionalities.

Facial Recognition is becoming the go-to security method, be it small devices such as mobile phones, or surveillance systems. The proposed project is to create a facial recognition system that can identify authorized persons, keep track on entries, and rings an alarm in case of unauthorized access. The system will keep a record of the number of people who have passed, on a day-to-day basis. This system will help institutions put in place, a robust security system that can automate entries into an area. Various algorithms will be used to maintain the accuracy and reliability of the system. One of the many different machine learning and image processing detectors will be used for face detection. Some classifiers will be used for recognizing the provided images.

The initial project is software-based, relying on datasets to differentiate between authorized and unauthorized persons. After the initial prototype, we plan to integrate the developed software with hardware such as cameras to create a complete security system.

Project Objectives

The main purpose of this project is to use algorithms to provide a robust security system that uses facial recognition at its core to filter out unauthorized personnel from entering. 

Our project will provide a desktop application on which, algorithms will be used to train our system in such a way that it accurately identifies authorized and unauthorized people. There will be more functionality added such as login/log out function and an alert message when an unauthorized person is detected. This application is meant to be a simple yet effective security solution prototype. 

The core objective of the project is a web interface that separates authorized and unauthorized people. A warning is displayed when unauthorized persons are detected. Furthermore, a log is maintained that shows everyone who is detected. This log is maintained for a day and can be checked by the administrator using the system.

The secondary scope is to expand the software by adding suitable hardware e.g cameras to enable real-time monitoring and filtering of personnel.

Project Implementation Method

In the proposed project, we will be using the scrum agile development model as we want to accommodate changes on the go. Different machine learning and image processing algorithms will be implemented for better accuracy. Alongside that, we will be using a desktop application designed by us to further make the system simpler to use. User (admin) will log in, perform the tasks needed, and can log out before leaving. The web application will be developed using Python. The algorithms that we will use our CNN based. The face detector and classifier used will be from Image Processing and Machine Learning

Benefits of the Project

The project will be beneficial in the security system for a number of organizations so that they could get better surveillance and attendance related service.
