Our Project is based on the study and analysis of Heat Sinks.A Heat Sink is a passive heat exchanger that transfers the heat generated by an electronic or a mechanical device to a fluid medium, often air or a liquid coolant, where it is dissipated away from the device, thereby allowing regulation of the device's temperature.
We will be actually using and comparing two types of Heat Sinks with each other which is never been done before.The two Heat Sinks we are using in this project are Straight type and splayed type HS.A closed tunnel shaped model would be made in which we will place the two sinks and take out the results.While making the tunnel our main focus will be on two important parameters,one is the "Thermal Competence" and the other is "Pressure Drop".
As the temperature of electronic devices increases,their failure rate increases. That is why electrical devices should be cooled,and for these cooling purposes Heat Sinks are used.
After the completion of this project we will be able to help the users selecting the best Heat Sink for their different cooling purposes.A complete report would be published on the study analysis and comparison of different Heat Sinks which would be helpful for the industrial applications.
In the market there are huge number of design models of heat sink are available.After a particular research and study we finalize our hardware design on the basis of cost, availability and easily handling.Our hardware would be made up of glass material.
A tunnel is made up of a glass material which is 18 inch in length and 5-inch width. A tunnel is completely insulated with a aluminum foil which is commonly used in refrigerators to maintain their cooling phenomena and easily available on electric shops. Secondly, we placed a mud plates in bottom of tunnel because due to excessive heat from the heater the heat will not be transferred to the glass material. These plates are commonly used in gas heaters.in tunnel our sink is placed on heater and blower is paced at one end of the tunnel. Sensors are also placed in the tunnel.
For calculating the values from the sensors in hardware, we manually turn on the switches one by one from S1 to S6. The values of temperature and pressure drop are stored into the internal memory of the Arduino mega2560. By using the computer language C the proper code for Arduino is burned into the Arduino mega2560. In which all the formulas are added in the form of code. And finally, a result is shown on LCD.
