Project Summary

Eco-friendly and economical pot coolers – instead conventional air coolers!! Jogu Pramod, Nizamabad, an ac mechanic, invented economical and eco-friendly pot coolers.

It is made of earthen pot with a small fan attached to it. He makes a hole and fixes a pipe.

A small fan is attached on top of it while hay is filled in the pot. When the water run through the hay, it produces cool air.

Everything is inbuilt pot and the power consumed by the pot cooler, even when it is used continuously for 20 hours, is just one unit.

Project Objectives

As the earthen pot itself has a wonderful nature of cooling itself naturally, Pramod made use of this property. Water inside the clay pot becomes cool due to evaporation. The tiny pores in the surface of the clay pot allow evaporation very quickly due to which the heat of the water inside the pot comes down

Project Implementation Method

Pot-in-pot cooling device is basically a food cooler that utilizes the effect of evaporative cooling for its intrinsic mechanism to preserve drugs, fruits and vegetables in hot and dry climate. The performance of the cooler was examined in this experiment when the lining media was changed from sand to charcoal and sawdust as well as considering the meteorological data of Ilorin. The cooling effects of three pots of the same geometry bearing different lining media were compared. The pots were set up and observed for 59 days from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and the performances were recorded. The device performs well under a low relative humidity

Benefits of the Project

When the roots reach the conical-shaped sides of the pot, they are forced toward the holes. Once exposed to the elements, the roots are naturally “air pruned”. Air pruning stimulates root branching, and new roots sprout from the old. This process repeats until the entire grow media is crisscrossed with roots.these new tiny roots are created, they spread out through the soil. This large fibrous root mass can soak up more nutrition than the long singular roots in a generic pot. This makes for happier, more robust, healthier plants.
Take a plant out of a regular container, and the chances are that the roots at the bottom are sodden. This is due to insufficient drainage. The holes in your air pot ensure optimal drainage and aeration of the growing medium. This 

supports the ideal conditions for beneficial bacteria to thrive and provide more nutrients for the plant.The roots of plants grown in conventional pots are long. With nowhere to go, they spiral round and round, strangling themselves. They become “root bound” and struggle to nourish the plant above ground efficiently. With air pots, shorter, more vigorous roots that work to their maximum potential are constantly created.

In an air pot, your plant receives oxygen from all sides. Your medium will dry out quickly and evenly. Undrained “standing water” in your pot can lead to root rot and other diseases. Using an air pot will protect your plants from these problems.
