Development of Wearable Triboelectric Nanogenerators WTNG
Project Area of Specialization Wearables and ImplantableProject SummaryAs the world is shifting towards the green energy to avoid pollution. In our project "Development of Wearable Triboelectric Nanogenerators", our target is to develop such a garment which has the ability to charge or power gadgets.
The garment basically convert the mechanical forces and stresses in to the electrical energy through the triboelectric effect, which is utilized to power IOTs like smart watches, smart phones etc.
Project Objectives1) Selection of fabric.
For the development of triboelectric nanogenerator first we have to select a pair of fabrics from the triboelectric series. based on their tendency to lose or gain electrons when they come in contact with each other.
2) Incorporation of Nanoparticles.
Nanoparticles such as (carbon nanotube, silver oxide etc.) in triboelectric nanogenerators are used to enhance their electrical output.
3) Development of (TENG) sample.
From the different literature reviews, we have developed the basic understanding of the sample preparation, which we consider in our sample preparation and develop such a garment which is able to convert human mechanical energy in to electrical energy.
Project Implementation MethodOur Project's final Sample (patch) can be attached through stitching on those parts of garment where maximum human stress and rubbing action involved such as knee, elbow, heel etc.
Benefits of the ProjectImagine that when you are walking/ jogging and without any powerbank your phone or smart watch is charging. This is our aim which is very beneficial for the new generation and a big achievement in technical textile.
i) The sample can be integrated in the costumes of sportsmen because his/her physical activities is greater.
ii) It can also be integrated on the patients suit to power the device which is showing patient's hearbeat.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableOur final Wearable Triboelectric Nanogenerator (TENG) sample has three layers each side.
First Layer.
The first layer is consist of the triboelectric materials (fabric). this is friction layer, when they are rubbed together, charges are generated upon their surfaces.
The amount of charge generation is depend upon the position of material in triboelectric series.
Second Layer.
It is consist of Nanoparticles such as (carbon nanotube, Silver Oxide, Barium Titanate). The nanopartical incorporation increases the surface area of the fabric so that more charge can be generated during firiction and sample output can be enhanced.
Third Layer.
It is consist of conductive material which is there to collect the generated charges. when the sample is contact separated the electron flows from the negative tribolectric material to positive triboelectric material through conductive yarn/wires producing electric current and potential difference.
