Project Summary

Solar Photovoltaic (PV) energy systems are leading the market when talking about renewable energy sources. To identify faults and ensure maximum performance, a testing PV Lab is being setup in NED University. Following are some of the test that would be conducted in PV lab:

  1. Electroluminescence
  2. Hot-spot test  

The above tests are performed to identify cracks and identify the hot-spots on PV module.
This project includes designing of Load-Bank that will help in performing these tests.

A thermal imager will be required that will identify the Hot-spot on PV module.

For Electroluminescence test, a digital camera with IR filter will be required which will help in identifying cracks on PV module.

For monitoring purpose, load bank will be equipped with pyranometer. Pyranometer will be used to measure solar radiation.

A weather monitoring station will be made, in order to get an environmental informational of the site required before setting up the solar panels.

Project Objectives

  • Design a commercially used 30 kW load bank.
  • Design a Bluetooth Pyranometer with temperature and humidity measurement.
  • Design of a commercially used Weather Monitoring Station.
  • Perform test on PV module at PV lab.

Project Implementation Method

The implementation method is divided into different stages that are as follows :

  • Study and design a 30 KW load bank.
  • Study and analyze different test of PV module according to IEC standards.

Study and design of a Pyranometer along with Weather Monitoring Station.

 As the daily requirement of energy is increasing, the use of renewable sources are also increasing. The solar energy plays a vital role as an alternative energy or renewable energy. In order to meet the energy need and to ensure a high-quality PV module, a PV Testing Lab is required. The lab tests can identify faults and ensure maximum performance of solar panels. The lab offers a wide range of quality control testing services conducted according to international standards ensuring quality and reliability to solar systems. With a good quality solar panels, the user can generate & consume energy for a long period of time. Moreover, they can sell energy to the grid, if required.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

  • A 30-kW load bank consisting of Pyranometer
  • A Weather Monitoring Station for weather and climate inspection.

A PV Testing Lab with solar panels installed up-to a capacity of 5kW
