The demand of electricity is ever growing and is predicted to increase further in the future. New sources of electricity are added in the already present ones. So, the electric grid expansion and need of installing more generation power plants has become one of the most important topics of today. These grids are capable of production of electricity from various sources of energy. Distributed Generation (DG) can be used to cater the increasing energy requirements .
DG engages small scale energy sources near to the end where it would be consumed.
With the increasing energy demand, it has become necessary to employ small-scale distributed generators to different power generation sources and merge the power in one stream. Distributed generation is widely being used so the theme of this project is to automate the existing manual synchronization of a Distributed Energy Resource (DER) to the Main grid. These devices are already being used in our country but they are not manufactured in Pakistan rather they are imported from other countries and are very costly, so our main objective is a cost efficient device.
Project ObjectivesThis project has the following objectives:
- Synchronization of Distributed Generator with Grid.
- Automatic phase and Frequency Control of Distributed Generator.
- Achieve Voltage Regulation of Distributed Generator using microcontroller.
- Reverse metering (add on)
The following are the four requirements of synchronization:
1. Phase Sequence
2. Voltage Magnitude
3. Frequency
4. Phase Angle
to acheive the synchronization we are using Phase Lock Loop (PLL) method
Benefits of the ProjectOne of the main benifit of this project is to utilize renewable recources and to implement the concept of Distribution Generation (DG) and reverse metering(add on).
Technical Details of Final Deliverableour project is technically 80% completed and we have assembled all the components after sucessful simulation. few final touches and small part of PLL aurdino code is pending.
