Design and Simulation of Alternate Positioning and Navigation Timing System for Aircraft
The inherent susceptibility of GNSS systems makes them highly inadequate for Mission Critical or Safety Critical applications. Both DARPA and FAA are funding research programs for terrestrial APNT systems. This project aims to align our students with contemporary research in Avionics. The main reason for this project is that the signals received from the GNSS are very weak to further process in accordance with the standard time. The project aims to design and simulate an APNT system covering Pakistan that can be used both by manned aircraft and UAVs. There would be 6-8 transmitters used to cover the whole area of Pakistan without any sort of interference.
The system shall demonstrate:
Geographical and Spatial Coverage
Spectrum utilization
Signal Protocols
Required Navigational Accuracy through Mathematical Modeling
a) Transmitter Specifications and Simulation
b) Geographical and Spatial Coverage Models
c) Navigational Algorithms
d) Required Navigation Performance
The APNT is fail-safe to GNSS and can be use in the absence of GNSS. It's implementation is simple.
Basic Navigation using verified VOR-DME
Using Kalman FIlter Navigational Accuracy
Geographical Mapping
