Project Summary

Pakistan has been striving through old energy crisis over the last decade. Being the engineers we should come up with solutions that would help in reducing problems caused by the crisis. As we know Fossil Fuel is ultimately expendable and comes with several problems, the focus must be directed towards renewable and sustainable energy sources. Pakistan has always relied on fossil fuels for their vehicles. Electric vehicles, which is a new trend altogether is growing exceptionally in Pakistan. This will help reduce dependency on fossil fuels and also create a sustainable environment. This project aims to design an electric vehicle charging station solely working on solar energy. Moreover the fabrication of a prototype will be carried out.

Project Objectives

Pakistan is facing a very serious energy crisis, which not only affects the normal lives of the people but also creates obstacles in the development and progress of the country. Pakistan’s industry is in decline due to the shortage of energy in the form of electricity, natural gas, and transport and domestic sectors are also victims of this crisis. All the major sectors such as the industry, transport, domestic, and power generation sectors are demanding more and more energy to run continuously. This supply demand gap becomes more and more severe in the summer seasons. Today, electricity production costs have increased enormously in Pakistan and this is affecting domestic consumers and commercial users economically in terms of affordability.

This project aims to provide a solution to the energy crisis of Pakistan. Renewable energy such as solar energy is a viable solution to the energy crisis. Moreover, it will produce clean/green energy as far as environmental point of view in concerned. Electric vehicles have an increasing trend around the globe. Charging of electric vehicle requires electricity and the electricity generated by this solar powered carport will be utilized to charge electric vehicle.

Project Implementation Method

The methodology of this project involves the technical and economic feasibility analysis of an IoT based solar powered carport designed for the charging of electric vehicles. It also includes environmental and sensibility analysis for maintenance of a sustainable environment and cost-effective methods to produce clean energy in lowest possible cost. At the same the data loggers and android application will be developed to get the real time data of the system For simulation and Finite Element Analysis, the software of SolidWorks will be used. Also, for shading analysis, PVsol software will be used.

Benefits of the Project

The vision of utilizing university parking for charging of electric vehicles can be beneficial for not only university students and teachers but for outsiders as well as we will be providing a cheaper option as compare to other electric vehicles charging stations. We also aim to create awareness about Electric Vehicless so as to build new charging stations and reduce pollution created by normal vehicles.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Following are the project deliverables:

  1. Designing of mechanical and electrical system for the solar powered carport.
  2. Develop overall 3D model/design for solar powered carport.
  3. Carry out economic analysis for viability of proposed project.
  4. Carry out environmental analysis for proposed project.
  5. Carry out sensitivity analysis for proposed project.
