Design and Development of Laser Absorbing Material for Main Battle Tank
This project analyses the basic concept regarding Lasers, Laser Range Finders and techniques to get stealth from the Laser Range Finders in battle zone. Laser beam from the source is imprignated on the surface whose range is to be found, they reflect and on reaching back to the sensor, range of the target is calculated. Scattering the laser beam or its absorption are considered as the two basic methods to avoid photons striking back to the screen. Various techniques includes surface treatment such as painting, applying stickers, sheets or modifying the material of surface exposed. This will improve absorptivity and reduce reflectivity and emissivity of phonons which will inturn make it able get undetectable in certain devices.
In this era of modernization, supermacy in the battlefield is quite difficult to achieve. Modern battle require both attack and defence tactics. Going stealthy in the battlefield is a clever way to stab the enemy from the back. For the purpose different devices and mechanisms have been used some of them include X-guards, Lite guard, Trophy, Iron fist, Trophy and Ironball paint etc. Laser range finders are used to monitor the range of the enemy vehicle.A lot of money has gone into developing ”meta-materials” that might be used to fool infrared and radar sensors and hide tanks, planes, and troops. In this paper certain methods are defined to get stealth from the subject. In 2013, ZHU et al. proposed that coatings of materials like SmAlO3, Al/Cr2O3 composite particles and NaDyF4 exhibit remarkable absorption of 1.06 µm laser. Multiband compatible stealth materials (CSMs) can be used as infrared and laser absorbing materials. Aluminum exhibits excellent properties but due to its glossy and flaky nature it is hard to be used. Yuan et al. prepared an AlF e3O4 composite pigment which is effective in laser absorption where as Shu et al. prepared Ni-doped ZnO/Al composite which can absorb laser effectively. In addition to materials mentioned above rare earth materials are also effective in laser absorption. He et al. used SmBO3 powder to suppress laser reflectivity. Zhang et al. prepared ATO nano powder . Yu et al. used Indium-doped tin oxide (ITO) and Semi conductor compounds are another good approach for making high performance stealth materials.
Project is related to defence of the country as mentioned above it will help us to make our tanks stealth which is not yet achieved by Pakistan.
Stealth technology is to be implemented on tanks. If it gets successful than its mass production can help us making stealth all the armoured vehicles.
There are several ways of dealing the enemy. One way to play clever with the enemy is to hide and then stab from the back. This material will do the same it will make the tank undetectable using laser absorbing technology using a paint or anyother surface that can do so.
