2.2 billion people on earth are not fortunate enough to have clear vision. about 1 billion visual impairment cases could have been prevented by taking care of such individuals. The main reason that such individual is not able to achieve their goal or do their daily chores because of the dependency on others. We are proposing a simple yet efficient solution to design a smart shoes using ultrasonic sensor and IR sensor programmed on an Arduino board. This will detect the obstacle and stair and alarm the person by ringing the buzzer. This economical solution will help the visual impaired  in underdeveloped countries.

Project Objectives

the main objective is to help visually impaired individuals to minimze their dependency on other for this we are designing a shoe that will help them to detect obstacle in their way and warn them by rining a buzzer 

they are also able to detect if their is some water so that they can avoid slipping incidents 

A edge detection is also a feature in which user is able to learn if any edge come for example stairs and avoid it 

Project Implementation Method

  • Assign which slot we want to place our voltage source(+). I recommended placing it into the lowest side of the breadboard because this is where the conducting plate is fully connected horizontally. Now, connect the jumper wire to the 5V pin of the arduino board and connect the other end of the jumper wire to the assigned slot that you want to be your voltage source.
  • Assign the ground slot(-). I recommended placing it to the lowest side/upper side of the breadboard where the conducting plate is fully connected horizontally but make sure that the voltage pin and ground pin is not connected on the same slot as this will result in a short circuit which could damage your board. Now, connect the jumper wire into the GND pin of the arduino board and the other end to your assign ground slot.
  • Connect the VCC pin of the ultrasonic sensor to the voltage source (+).
  • Connect the GND pin of the ultrasonic sensor to the ground (-).
  • Connect the Echo pin of the ultrasonic sensor to pin number 9 of the arduino nano board.
  • Connect the Trigger pin of the ultrasonic sensor to pin number 10 of the arduino nano board.
  • Connect the ground pin of the buzzer to your ground source(-).
  • Connect the positive pin of the buzzer to pin number 2 of the arduino nano board.

Benefits of the Project

this will decrease the dependency of visually impaired on other and they can walk around and do they  daily chores freely and without anyones help.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

a shoe in with all the circuitary is embedded which includes arduino, ultrasonic sensor,IR sensor and water sensor along with buzzer
