Project Summary

Chassis is the basic and most important part of automobiles. Safety of passenger, handling, and life of automobile depends on the stiffness, strength, and rigidity of the chassis. Unibody chassis or unitized chassis is more rigid, lighter in weight, consumes less fuel, and bears the impact force better than the body on frame. The finite element method technique is found beneficial to discover maximum stress and deformation area due to applied forces. The research shows the deformation in a unibody by applying loads in different directions and deformation in the body by varying velocity of the body. The geometry of chassis is modeled on SolidWorks while static analysis and dynamic analysis are performed on Ansys workbench.

  • Selection of the best chassis from the available designs of chassis.
  • Modeling of unibody chassis on SolidWorks.
  • Locate the maximum and minimum stress and deformation area due to static loads using Ansys.
  • Deformations produced due to impact by changing the velocity and direction of impact

Modeling of geometry on SolidWorks.

Static and Dynamic analysis of chassis on Ansys workbench.
