DAM Monitoring and Automation using WSN
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryIn Pakistan There are almost 150 dams & reservoirs but none of the have accessibility of (WSN). Almost all of the dams are operated manually and any type of leakage in dam can not be recognized easily. The safety of dams is closely associated with that of people due to the fact that dams are directly linked to places where people live. That’s why the constant monitoring of the dams through various types of sensors and the prevention of problems through prediction are of vital importance.
Project ObjectivesThe aim of our project is to innovate the old method of dam monitoring into the latest dam monitoring system by using WSN.
The main purpose of the project is to predict future losses such as flood, earthquake, change in water level, temperature and humidity, etc.
To develop the DAM monitoring system which detects different sensors.
The system can monitor all the data with a high transmission speed.
The concept of the system is to develop a web portal that will continuously monitor the sensor nodes attached to the DAM.
Project Implementation MethodThe purpose of this project is to develop a system that allows for data to be generated from sensors that will have been fitted at a dam that still, is being monitored via a site on the web. The proposed system will have several sensors, placed at a dam, which will transfer the data that they obtain to a controller that’ll be at a small computer running with the help of GUI software. International Journal of Programming Languages and Applications. The controller shall be responsible for storing all of the data collected that’s hall have been collected with the use of the sensors in the database. This controller will run on the internet, in view of making the monitoring visible at a hosting level that shall have used the web portal. Shown below is the web portal designed for the system. Also at the controller, will be an alert system that shall monitor water levels to ensure that they never go past the maximum acceptable levels. Below is a sample of an email that could be sent to the system’s user. With the proposed system, the government shall be able to remotely control and monitor her dams. This will eliminate the risks and costs that come with physically monitoring the said dams.
Benefits of the ProjectThe proposed system can monitor dam water level, humidity, temperature, moisture and crack or any disaster with higher transmission speed.
This system is more reliable and its cost is cheap.
The best output of this scenario can be shown on bigger Dams.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableIn the project, groups of sensors are deployed in specific areas to observe quantities as stress, stain or pressure and report to a remote central station in the monitoring area. Sensors are typically grouped around specific points of interest in a component of the structure.
We can get information on the water availability in a particular region and route the water to that area if there’s scarcity. This helps a lot with irrigation. Keeping a check on the safety of the dam from time to time is one of the important measures to ensure the safety of dams. The use of Wireless sensors network with software for dam safety management helps in improving the functionality of dams. All the sensors in the cluster of dams such as Water Level Sensor, Vibration Sensor, and Pressure Sensor can be used to sense Water level, Vibrations on the wall of dam and Pressure exerted on the wall of the dam from the dam into the main pipeline in Litres per minute respectively.
