Project Summary

IoT based lab automation system to automate the lab in an organization with full security using a cryptographic encryption algorithm (AES). The system encrypts data before sending it to the system. after encryption the data will store in the database, from the database the lab automation system hardware retrieves the encrypted data from the database and use it as it is for. we can control the system from our mobile device anywhere on the planet Earth. after retrieving the encrypted data, the system decrypts by using a cryptographic decrypt algorithm and send it to the specific pin of the microcontroller. we are using NodeMCUESP8266 in our project because it is a low-cost device with a 2.4 GHz embedded antenna to communicate with the database.

Project Objectives

To provides an automation system which able to control lab appliances wirelessly efficiently and securely.

1.Controlling lab appliance via switches.

2.Controlling through Wi-Fi.

3.Storing the user data permanently for future login.

4.Designing the system to secure the data against third party entities.

5.Extensible platform for future enhancement.

Project Implementation Method

the project is fully based on IoT (Internet of Thing). Our aim is to control the appliance of the lab and to secure the lab from an incident like a fire or intruder.

we are using the NodeMCUESP8266 wifi module and android application to control the system from anywhere in the planet world. first, the microcontroller connects with the database and interact with the database using own IP address. also we as a user to interact with the system we first send our command or any other information to the database with full encryption of the data. we know that many electronic devices consist in the lab. so we will provide a specific IP address to every device and by using the assigned IP address we control the device. we also integrate motion sensors in the lab so that we can fully secure the lab and fire sensors also include in the project to protect the lab from any fire happening. in case of any fire, the system alerts the user by sending an alert message to the user, and also alert the fire brigadier.

Benefits of the Project

sometimes lab assistants forget to switch off the light or other electronic device, because of that a lot of energy consumed. By using a lab automation system the switch or electronic device admin of the application can switch off the light and electronic device from anywhere in the world.

In every institution, every class has been given time to work with the appliance of the lab. another feature of the system is that it uses a timer to automatically control the appliance. only the system admin switches the timer to a specific time. at that time the system will automatically turn off the lights or the electronic devices.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The main focus is on the usage of the NodeMCUESP8266  for controlling the lab appliances. A local control system over Wi-Fi and remote control is established based on IoT. A suitable Wi-Fi-based android application is utilized because it has a user-friendly interface and it can work efficiently with Arduino Mega to control and monitor via smartphone. Arduino controller is programmed to interact with the android application. The Wi-Fi module, buzzer, the temperature sensor will be connected directly to NodeMCUESP8266. The sensors have represented the inputs of the microcontroller. The relay board receives its input signals from Arduino UNO, while the bulbs and fan which are only samples for real home appliances are connected to the relay outputs. The steps on how to control the electrical appliances using the android application are depicted in Fig. Through this procedure, the considered electrical appliances and lab conditions can be controlled and monitored via mobile phone.
