Project Summary

Project consist of a collar device for cows. Device contains multiple sensors (IP-enabled thermometer, Pedometer and GPS) which send data to server, that data will be accessed by the app. Sensors will be used to detect the abnormal temperature in cows moreover it will predict the right time of insemination in cows. Each cow will have a separate collar device. Devices will notify the owner about the current condition of animal on mobile using internet. Farm owner will be able to see each animal’s activity like animal’s medical history, insemination history and location through the app.

Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to devise a mechanism that can assists farmers to take early precautionary measures. To achieve the aforesaid, we will develop (a) a Collar device for cows and (b) an App that will operate on the data from the servers. The collar device contains multiple sensors, such as IP-enabled pedometer, thermometer, and GPS that will capture data of the cows and transmit it to the server.

Project Implementation Method

The project composed of a cowler device which includes aurdino sensors, these sensors collect data and pass it on server. The data is then fetched and displayed on an android app.  On he basis of the collected data the insemenation time of a cow will be predicted. The app will also contain medical record of each animal. The app also provides the feature of adding a new animal and its medical record.

Benefits of the Project

The daily routine and activities of the cows will be monitored in the cattle farm. Those activities will help farmers to take necessary actions that will affect the production of the milk. For example, the insemination period for every cow comes after everyone year. The insemination remains active only for 18-30 number of hours. If the insemination period is passed, then it may affect the production of the farmers and the health of the cows. Traditionally, the farmers use non-tested bulls to use the insemination period for the production of the calves that does not improves the milk production. However, if the lab tested semen is used at the time of insemination period it can drastically improve the production of the milk for the next generation of the cows.  Similarly, the other areas also affect the production of the milk if not taken care properly.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

System will capture the temperature, insemination period and location of the cows through the sensors that are encapsulated in the collar devices mounted on the cows. Each cow will have a separate collar device. The data collected by collar device is uploaded on a server. The data is then fetched by android app. Farmers can track all the details of the cows by using the app. The app also provide feature of adding new animals and there records. Similarly, our app can be used to notify the farmers about the time to vaccinate the cows.
