Cost effective net metering
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummarySmart meter is an advanced energy meter that measures consumption of electrical energy providing additional information compared to a conventional energy meter. Integration of smart meters into electricity grid involves implementation of a variety of techniques and software, depending on the features that the situation demands. The deployment of smart meters needs proper selection and implementation of a communication network satisfying the security standards of smart grid communication. This issues and challenges involved in design, deployment, utilization, and maintenance of the smart meter infrastructure. In addition, several applications and advantages of smart meter, in the view of future electricity market are discussed in detail. The importance of introducing smart meters in developing countries. In addition, the status of smart metering in various countries is also illustrated.
Project ObjectivesThe objective of this project is properly utilize the power so that consumer and WAPDA can both take the benifits. It to build a system named(dual way metering system) as a name indicate this system can supply the power to both the sides ,for example from WAPDA to consumer and from consumer to WAPDA. Here the consumer will use solar system which will fulfill the requirement of its own load and in case of excesses unit system, it will transfer the power to WAPDA site.
We have to achieve these objectives in this project:
1. In case solar is unable to generate any power then consumer will use the WAPDA as a primary source.
2. In case the solar generation is greater than our load consumption, then we can sell the excessive units to WAPDA.
v If we sell much to WAPDA and consume less from WAPDA,for example we sell 50 units to WAPDA and consume 30 units from WAPDA, then WAPDA will pay us back or the net bill will come in negative.
v If we sell less to WAPDA and consume more from WAPDA then we will pay to WAPDA but in net bill our selling units will be subtract.
Project Implementation MethodPic Microcontroller is the central part of the project which is controlling all the process like measuring the voltage of the load using P.T (potential transformer), where current will also be measured using C.T. where other C.T is used to measure the power generated by solar, in the same way other P.T is used to measure the voltage of the battery here 1 port of controller is connected to the LCD for displaying the following information displayed in LCD.
Benefits of the ProjectAs the energy crisis in Pakistan and some other countries are increasing day by day, peoples of these countries are facing many problems due to these crises. Our motivation was to introduce such a system which provide sufficient energy in eater direction (from electric company to consumer or from consumer to electric company). The main advantage of this system is that, it has more than one source, if one source (solar) is not able to fulfill the requirement of consumer it will be automatically shifted to another available source (wapda).where in case of excessive power the power will be transmitted to the wapda which will subtract the bill from the total and may fulfil the crisis in the area.
