Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThis project is based on CNC (Computer Numeric Control) Machining in which we are using the subtractive manufacturing process. We have built a CNC router which can be used for both milling and engraving processes. This technology plays a very important role in manufacturing process and provides easy and fast product manufacturing decreasing the labour cost. Moreover, the working efficiency is very high as compared to human work. Once a program is developed it can be used again and again for mass production industries, it requires to upload the program once. Only one worker can operate more than one machines at a time that will decrease the production time and eventually increasing profit.
Working:- A CAD (Computer Aided Design) software is used to develop the desired design.
- Numeric code is generated by transferring the design to CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) software.
- We have suggested a software which can perform these processes combined.
- This Numeric code is given to the machine to perform task.
- The raw material is placed on the bed of machine.
- Machining process is started by giving a single command.
- To develop repeatability with a very limited budget.
- Make a low cost machine which will be accessable for an individual.
- Design an automatic machine that can produce objects via image processing.
- To provide low cost and fast PCB(Printed Circuit Board) Manufacturing for educational purpose
- Allow a non technical person to work on it without having any training
- To povide an automatic machining that can produce objects via image processing.
- A simplified design is made on a CAD software in order to make it low cost.
- The design strength analysis are done on the software.
- All the parts are designed mannually.
- In electrical section, we used simulation software to simulate the motors movement according to the code.
- The parts which were designed in CAD software, made on 3d Printer.
- Other appratus is taken from market and developed the machine
- Machine is tested on different materials doing drilling on these materials
- this allowed to set the other parameters for machine i.e Machine working speed, Machine Feed Rate, Motors Torque ,Motors Current Adjustment
This machine is designed low cost so that it can be made a commercial product for sale even a single person can buy it for his use, within his budget. This machine produces small level production with high effeciency the main theme behind the development of this machine is to develop PCBs which are difficult for students to build complex design mannually and if they move to market, spend much more money then their actual cost of project so we provided this machine to our university lab to use this facility another benifit is that the students with other engineerings rather than mechanical engineering can do all mechinal tasks on this machine without learning any skill in mechanical.
CNC machine is vastly used in Architecture, Interior designing, engraving logos, Art and crafts, PCB manufacturing etc.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe machine is developed with working area of 180mmx300mm X&Y and 30mm of Z axis Machine is made up on aluminuim profiles 2020 (20x20mm) with 8mm leadscrews of pitch of 2mm 3 stepper motors (NEMA17) are used for each axis and a spindle motors (RS 775) 12v is used for spindle. Limit swicthes are installed on each axis in order to prevent damaging of machine the controller which is used for this machine is Grbl controller which consists on a microcontrolller ATmega328pu 3 drivers, one for each axis and this grbl sheild can be used either with laser or with spindle this Grbl sheild also have an advanced feature to control the spindle speed according to the object placed.
