Project Area of Specialization Artificial IntelligenceProject Summary“Blind Assistant Smart Cap Via Mobile Application” is a system which will help blind person to navigate the paths and easily move towards its destination without any hurdles in the way.
According to WHO, 2.2 billion people are visually impaired.
This system can be used as a subordinate for a blind person that can serve him everywhere just by giving simple audio commands. This system will be capable to detect object and give an audible output through a handset. It can also measure the distance between an object and the user. This device can also help the blind for reading purpose means it can read anything that the blind wants to read. This project can be used by the blind in any ambiguous condition by means of making a video call to his/her selected person. This system can be operated/controlled through a mobile application which takes voice commands and the device will do it.
This device is a real-time system that monitors the environment and provides audio feedback about the environment.
Project Objectives1) To review the existing products and literature to identify the need of this project.
2) Design of Project with following features:
- To read any image and provide audible output through handset.
- To make a video call when the user ask for it.
- Identify obstacles by informing about the distance (in foots) between the object and the user.
- Provide voice guidance to a visually impaired person anytime everywhere.
- A user friendly and cost-effective system.
3) Development and testing of Hardware and software application.
4) Results and presentation of developed system.
Project Implementation Method- Main Chassis (Cap)
- These things will connect to Raspberry Pi Board
- Raspberry Pi Camera Module
- Bluetooth Module using for connection of raspberry pi board and mobile app
- SD Card (64 GB)
- Handsfree for output
- Linux OS will be installed on raspberry pi board
- Python language will be used for Raspberry Pi Coding
- These libraries will be used in python programming:
- TensorFlow library
- COCO Library
- Open CV
- e-Speak Library
- Google Text-To-Speech
- Yolo algorithm will be also used in python programming.
- Using Battery for the Power supply of raspberry pi board
- For components interconnection using Stereo Pin and Wires
- Using Android Application for controlling
Without any help of other person, for visual impaired person this device will detects objects, measures the distance how far the object and give an audible output.
This device can also help the blind for reading purpose.
Our application also has a feature to give video calls and sending the live location in case of any emergency to the concerned persons.
It is cheaper device, easy to use and easy to carry.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThis smart cap will be developed comprising of main equipments like Raspberry pi board, Pi Camera, Power bank (battery), handsfree.
Raspberry pi board acts like the brain of the device. It will process and executes the commands given by the user and produce audible output. The Pi Camera(8MP) is used for object detection and distance measurement along with algorithms. The Pi Camera is also used when the reading feature is working. The Power bank is used to start the device. The handsfree is connected to the output port of Raspberry Pi Board. It is used to produce audible output.
