Bicycle Generator

Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject Summary

The purpose of this project is to design a power generation system that will utilize the mechanical energy produced by the pedaling of a bicycle to charge the battery. Design is to be implemented on a bicycle mechanically coupled with a permanent magnet DC-generator capable to support 480-500 watts of the system. The pedaling bicycle will rotate the generator producing DC power, which will be an input of a designed push-pull converter to buck the output when the
generated power at the DC-generator is high for charging up of 12 V battery and boost the output when the generator output voltage is less for the charging up of battery. The system includes the development of a battery management system, comprising a microcontroller and simple LCD that will monitor the battery’s voltage, temperature, charging voltages, and currents as well as output voltages of the generator. The edge of this model is that bicycles can be attached and separated from the cycle anytime using a special cycle to generator coupling mechanism. Using this bicycle generator, gym owners, as well as households, can charge up their batteries free of cost while doing exercise.
