Project Summary

Comprehensive and mature BMSs are currently found in portable electronics, such as laptop computers and cellular phones, but they have not been fully deployed in EVs and HEVs. This is because the number of cells in a vehicle’s battery is hundreds of times greater than that in portable electronics. Moreover, a vehicle’s battery is designed not only to be a long-lasting energy system, but also to be a high power system. In other words, batteries for EVs and HEVs have to provide high voltage and high current. These make BMSs for EVs much more complicated than those for portable electronics.

The Battery management System (BMS) refers to the process of maintaining the battery and its temperature conditions optimum for maximum performance of them. BMS system for huge industries has been managed to give backup supply the critical loads and to save Diesel Generator running time and cost. The proposed project mesures current, voltage, liquid level, temperature and PH of the battery. The project displays all the parameters of the battery using Interner of Things.

Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to monitor the health of the LED Acid battery by measuring various parameters, such that DOD (depth of discharge), SOC (State of Charge), SOH (State of Health), current, voltage, time estimation (charging/discharging), temperature and water level. The project will contain a LED acid battery that will be used for testing purpose. Sensors will be mounted on the battery that will measure the parameters which will then be displayed to the user using IoT.

Project Implementation Method

The project will use Nodemcu esp32 as the controller which will be used to control and monitors the health of the LED Acid battery by measuring DOD (depth of discharge), SOC (State of Charge), SOH (State of Health). Current is measured by ACS712, Voltage is measured using voltage sensor voltage, time estimation (charging/discharging), temperature will be measured using pt100 and water level is measured using ultrasonic sensor. All sensors will be mounted on the battery that will measure the parameters which will then be displayed to the user using IoT.

Benefits of the Project

The project will benefit electric vehicle owners, homes, offices that require a battery and hospitals and PTCL. As the project helps helps in monitoring the health of the battery and helps in identifying the needs of it.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable
