Autonomous Car Using Raspberry pi
The purpose of our project is to create an autonomous car which should be able to drive automatically without any driver in the urban areas. This car just need a command from the user and then it will start moving towards the destination. The project is basically divided into two parts i.e Hardware and Software. The software part is based on Artificial Intelligence. Hardware consist on four modules each module run by source code. We installed GPS system to track the car in this way user take his destination point easily. All the functions of the car can be controlled by the Raspberry Pi module which also contain Pi Camera Module.
Following are the Project Objectives.
1) First objective is to detect obstacles.
2) Collision avoidness.
3) Sign boards detection ( Stop sign, Left, Right sign)
4) Traffic signal detection.
5) Distance measurement.
Autonomous car rely on sensors, complex algorithm, actuator, machine learning system and powerful processor to execute softwares. Ultrasonic sensor monitor the position of nearby car. Pi camera detect the sign board which contains traffic signal,stop,left and right sign.
A Raspberry Pi board (model B+), attached with a pi camera module and an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor is used to collect input data. Two client programs run on Raspberry Pi for streaming color video and ultrasonic sensor data to the computer via local Wi-Fi connection. In order to achieve low latency video streaming, video is scaled down to QVGA (320×240) resolution.

3) Traffic efficiency.
4) Reduce manpower.
5) Entertainment, such as video screens, newspaper, books could be used without any concern of distracting the driver.
The car have one input module which contain Pi camera and ultrasonic sensor used to avoid collision and detect obstacles, the Pi camera and ultrasonic sensor can aslo detect the sign boards and will measure the distance. All these function by Pi camera and ultrasonic sensor will be controlled by the processing unit i.e Raspberry Pi.
Many drivers spend a considerable time each day in their car for commuting, shopping, and traveling. In order to save time for the driver it is expected that manual driving will be eliminated in the near future and replaced by automated systems.
