Project Summary

The idea of our project was to build an autonomous pesticide spraying UAVs. The idea behind autonomous spraying is to protect farmers from a number of deceases caused due to pesticides intake and to make the process more efficient with proper monitoring. Autonomous spraying also made this process much easier in uncertain surrounding and atmospheric condition which was not possible in manual spraying process. The quadcopter used for spraying purpose in this project uses a Pixhawk controller that can easily maintain good flight stability. Mission planner software is used along with the GPS to set a certain path for the quadcopter. Each details from starting point of the flight to end point of the flight and starting of the spraying process is set in this software. A telemetry kit is used for the monitoring of the different parameters of the quadcopter such as battery voltages, total current drawn by qudcopter, flight time and realtime track moment of a quacopter on a laptop or your mobile device. After setting the mission, the quadcopter will take off, follow the defined track along with spraying the specified area and land at it end point. This process can be repeated several time or a new mission can also be set for the quadcopter.

Project Implementation Method

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Quadcopters are the most basic types of UAVs. This type of UAV have four arms mounted on them BLDC motors. Aluminium is used as Chassis material as it is light is weight and strong enoght to carry load. The designing of quadcopter is based of both mechanical and electronic aspects. The drone in this project is totally designed using solidwork software as shown. The design is based on embedded systems. Motors are mounted at the end of each arm of the frame. These motors work in pair in which 2 rotes clockwise and 2 rotates anticlockwise. At the center of the quadcopter electronics circuit is setup consisting of a microcontroller that controlls total working of a UAV. The battery to power the quadcopter will be placed on the first bottom plate and the chemical storage tank will be placed on the second bottom plate. The electronic speed controller(ESCs) will be attached on arm of quadcopter with each motor. GPS is used for autonomous flight controlling which is placed at the center of a quadcopter. To make these UAVs fly it is important to design it in such a way that its weight is acted upon center of gravity. which mean that every component placed on the frame should be at equal distance from the center with equal weight distribution for motors.
