Automatic controlled hybrid power system
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryAs we have a huge power shortage problem in our country so we are working on overcoming the shortage problem. Our project is to design a power system for a rural area where we are generating electricity from solar, wind, and hydro.
The inverters and a module will be connected to our generating plants which will be interconnected to each other, sending signals via an app. From this project, efficient use of power will be attained and this will solve the problem of wastage of power. The wind, solar and hydro for generating the hybrid at a small level to study the various factors in constructing a Hybrid generation plant with various minimum costs with the highest generating capacity.
Our project will produce electricity from wind energy that is captured by the use of wind turbines to generate energy from the flowing wind. Suitable blades of suitable length and cross-sectional area are used for this purpose that converts the kinetic energy of the flowing wind into mechanical energy.
A generator then converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy. It is also a renewable energy resource. It needs less costly to set up for the generation of electrical energy. Wind energy systems require low maintenance costs and it is present almost 24 hours of the day.
Our project will also produce electricity from solar because It is provided freely by nature and it is always readily available. It is friendly to the environment in the sense that it does not produce any gases that cause pollution. It is an affordable energy resource as the initial costs are very low.
By using the Android app we can control switches, for example, if there will be an issue or sparks produced in the system we can shut/close the button without any danger.
In short, The system consists of a solar panel and wind turbines to generate power, the battery charger to control the charges that flow to the DC backup battery, the inverter which converts DC to AC, the relays, switches that switch ON/OFF the loads when they receive a controlling signal from the phone, Bluetooth module. At night, the normal energy consumption is usually low and the battery bank is capable of providing enough energy for this situation. When there is a great deal of activity in the home and the consumption increases, the inverter starts the set, supplying the energy demand, at the same time as it charges the batteries. With the batteries charged and the Gen-set stops, the inverter supplies the home with the energy accumulated in the batteries.
Project ObjectivesIn order to achieve the highest efficiency for renewable energy systems in a whole day, the wind-solar hybrid system is one of the optimal solutions to generate energy in anytime and all-weather conditions. Small-scale hybrid stand-alone power systems are becoming popular alternatives in remote and island areas where the grid connection is not economically or technically viable. Hybrid systems provide a high level of energy security through the mix of generation methods and often will incorporate a storage system (battery, fuel cell) or small fossil-fueled generator to ensure maximum supply reliability and security.
The main objectives of this work are:
- To investigate and implement renewable energy resources i.e. Wind and solar energy as renewable energy sources.
- To design a reliable, cost-effective, pollution-free, and environment-friendly based wind-solar hybrid system for a selected suitable location using the android platform.
- To evaluate the performance of a wind-solar hybrid system for electricity generation at a specific location.
We will assemble a wind power plant and it will produce energy in DC voltage and that energy will be saved in a 12v battery. After that, we will assemble a hydropower plant from which electricity will be produced. We will design inverters and converters. We will place the solar plates. The simulation will be done and a connection will be made at the end. The android application controls the loads through the Bluetooth module The direct current (DC) from the solar and wind sources of energy is used in charging and to store electrical power in the 12V battery.
The battery supplies power to the inverter which converts the direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC).
The android application controls the loads through the Bluetooth module. The loads can be turned either ON or OFF by pressing the buttons, in the process of controlling the loads, the phone is configured with the system by turning the Bluetooth on the phone ON, then by pressing the “CONNECT THE DEVICE” button, the Bluetooth device and the phone will have connected automatically and the loads can be controlled using the smartphone.
The whole project will be implemented in a rural area, in the Demo, we will make a small rural area to show the working of our project.
Benefits of the ProjectBenefits of the Project:
- Load management, Unlike traditional generators, which provide high power as soon as they turn on, most hybrid solar power systems manage load accordingly. The major benefit is a connection to the other supplies and low energy consumption.
- Utilize the renewable sources in the best way: Because the batteries are connected to the system to store the energy, there is no waste of the excess energy generated on bright sunny days.
- Hybrid solar energy systems work more efficiently than traditional generators which waste fuel under certain conditions.
- The load shedding will be minimized.
- By the use of an android app, it will give safety to the worker.
- The hybrid solar systems provide power continuously, without any interruption, as the batteries connected, store the energy. So, when there is an electricity outage, the batteries work as an inverter to provide you back up.
- During the evening or night time when there will be no sun and energy is not being generated. Batteries will provide the back-up and life goes on without any interruption
