An IoT Based Approach for Very Low Cost Real-Time Vehicle Tracking System

Recently, most of the fields are becoming automated based on Internet of Things (IoT). As the population is increasing day by day, the dependency on transportation is also increasing.

Project Summary

In recent time, the world is becoming more faster because of its evolutionary development of advanced technologies. Recently, most of the fields are becoming automated based on Internet of Things (IoT). As the population is increasing day by day, the dependency on transportation is also increasing. The common peoples are suffering from the traffic jam problem badly. The vehicles can’t reach the destination in proper time. The notification system to the passengers is not available in public vehicle services (for example bus services in developing country). So, the peoples are wasting their valuable time in the station waiting for vehicles arrival. Considering these problems, in this project we have implemented a real-time vehicle tracking system using the GPS of smartphone and Google map API. As the availability of smartphone and internet rise almost in everywhere, our system can track the vehicles within very low cost and a short time. We have also implemented a Notification system in this project that the driver can sends an alert message in case of any incident that occurs with this vehicle, and driver can also communicate with administration in any case. We have also provided a functionality to the local user, he/she can send alert emergency message to the given emergency number by the user, this emergency alert helps the user when an incidence occurred with, he/she example “this emergency alert is special for women security when she travel”. This alert helps the user guardian to receive an alert message send from the user.

Project Objectives

We are developing an IoT base very low cast real-time vehicle tracking system. This project helps the local user to track the local transport vehicle with route map and arrival time. This project saves the time of the local user and thy are not waste his/her time to wait for vehicle. In this project we provide an emergency alert facility to the user, hey send a send emergency alert to the given emergency number in any case of incidence occurred. Thy have a notification facility to the user the notification send from the Admin or from the driver in any case. The driver has the functionality to share the real time location when hi want to share the location, driver have a functionality to send the alert message to the admin in any case and also receive the message from the admin. The admin has the functionality to track all the vehicle that have registered. The admin can send the notification to the both local user and driver.

Project Implementation Method

we have implementing an IoT based very low-caste real-time vehicle tracking system. It takes following steps

  1. Tracking Process: Tracking the real time location of the driver of the local transport such as receiving latitude and longitude from the database that given from the driver this latitude and longitude helps the user to track the location
  2. Alert: we set an emergency alert to the local user and also for driver thy can send and alert the given destination that set by the user and driver this communication perform from firebase.
  3. Admin Tracking: Admin can track the real time location of all the driver that all are information stored in database

Benefits of the Project

  1. Fast real time location of the vehicle.
  2. User can track the local transport vehicle with real time location and arrival time.
  3. User and driver send an emergency alert to the contact that thy have set in emergency method.
  4. User and driver receive notification from the admin or from driver in any case.
  5. Admin can track all the vehicle real time location and can manage the all the route of the vehicles.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

We developing this system an android application for local user and also for driver by using Java as a backend and XML as a front-end and using IoT techniques. And we also develop web application for the admin and using PHP and Json for back end. We are using google map API for tracking the vehicles. We Firebase for database purpose.
