Project Summary

Drones, as known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), are aircrafts which can perform autonomous pilot. They can easily reach locations which are too difficult to reach or dangerous for human beings and collect images from bird's-eye view through aerial photography. Enabling drones to identify people on the ground is important for a variety of applications, such as surveillance, people search, and remote monitoring. Since faces are part of inherent identities of people, how well face recognition technologies can be used by drones becomes essential for future development of the above applications. Face recognition identifying one or more people in images or videos by analysing and comparing patterns. Algorithms for face detection typically extract facial features and identifying them in the given video or image. In addition to this process we add the tool of drone, which is used to monitor the activities at a next level. Face detection is typically used in security systems. Besides that, it is also used in human computer interaction. A general statement of the problem can be formulated as follows, given still or video images of a scene, one or more persons in the scene can be identified using a stored database of faces. The solution of the problem involves face detection, feature extraction from the face regions and recognition.

Project Objectives

The deliverable, which we will present at the end of final year, will, entails following objectives. An equipment, which is mobile in nature, using for enhancing security control. Having wide coverage area with less cost consuming approach

i) Use Identification Algorithm in more enhanced and efficient way

ii) Minimizes Security Issues

iii) Enhance Monitoring and Controlling Security issues

iv) Reduce Cost of Surveillance using Identification Mechanism 

v) Minimizes Fixed Investments cost

vi) Minimum use of Equipment and efficient use of resources

Drone have wide coverage area with single equipment. Have more Access then CCTV cameras due to mobility in nature It minimizes the security cost as compare to installing CCTV because cameras have limited access to the coverage area and it is also considered as a permanent investment so cameras are not applicable for
places where gatherings are occurred occasionally.

Project Implementation Method

Drone Transmit Image 

Camera on Drone will click picture and send it to computer system using wireless network connection either Bluetooth or Wifi.

Computer Receives Image

  Computer System Receives image through wireless connection and put it to Software for further processing

Applying Identification Algorithm

Algorithms developed on python will process that image and recognize faces in it.

Matching with Database

Matching the recognized faces with the pictures stored in the databases

Displays Identified Faces

Faces which got identified will be displayed distinctly.

Benefits of the Project

Drone have wide coverage area with single equipment.

Have more Access then cctv cameras due to mobility in nature 

It minimizes the security cost as compare to installing cctv because cameras have limited access to the coverage area and it is also considered as a permanent investment so cameras are not applicable for
places where gatherings are occur ocassionally.

Applying Face Recognition Algorithms on the video transmitting by the camera placed on drone will benefit in identifying Syspicious person or a person who needs to be identified 

Face recognition algorithms will identify person by analysing his/her face traits 

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Drone having Pixhawk flight controler in which we can even plan the mission 

Drone having IP Camera who have dynamic ip according to network 

Camera Transmit live video feed to the computer system 

Using that live video feed applying face recognition algorithm on it 

Face Recognition by Using OpenCV and Haar Classifiers
