Currently, pharmaceutical companies are facing a lot of losses due to fake medicines in the market which causes 50 billion dollar loss annually (Harvard business review report). Moreover, the buyers have no specific way to verify the authenticity of medicine that they are buying locally. Hence, we are proposing a Block chain based pharmaceutical supply chain management solution which will verify the originator of medicine and ensure the trust of real products through provenance and traceability. This will help companies to fight against fake medicine producers and will increase customer loyalty and trust.

Project Objectives

Following are the objectives of the proposed project:

 1) Understanding core supply chain processes used in medicine

 2) Implementing hyper ledger as the core block chain technology

 3) Build a Web application

Project Implementation Method

For this system, we will prefer to adopt agile methodology[11]. Agile is a process by which a team can manage a project by breaking it up into several stages and involving constant collaboration with stakeholders and continuous improvement and iteration at every stage. The Agile methodology be- gins with clients describing how the end product will be used and what problem it will solve. This clarifies the customer’s expectations to the project team. Once the work begins, teams cycle through a process of planning, executing, and evaluating — which might just change the final deliverable to fit the customer’s needs better. Continuous collaboration is key, both among team members and with project stakeholders, to make fully-informed decisions. The core of the agile methodology was developed by 17 people in 2001 in written form. Their Agile Manifesto of Software Development put forth a groundbreaking mindset on delivering value and collaborating with customers. Agile’s four main values are expressed as: Individuals and interactions over processes and tools Working software over comprehensive documentation Customer collaboration over contract negotiation Re- sponding to change over following a plan Today, the word Agile can refer to these values as well as the frameworks for implementing them, including: Scrum, Kanban, Extreme Programming (XP), and Adaptive Project Framework (APF). So what is agile methodology in project management? Simply put, it is a process for managing a project characterized by constant iteration and collabo- ration in order to more fully answer a customer’s needs.

The proposed system will help the common person to detect whether the money he is paying are giving him the right medicine in return. This will cause damage to the fake medicine mafia and will help the original companies to do a crackdown against counterfeit medicines. It will increase the customer’s trust and will ultimately add to their loyalty. In short, it will not only safe the health of patients but will also help businesses to grow.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

After the successful completion of the project, we should have a complete end to end web-based online medicine provenance system on block chain. The system should be able to detect fake medicines at

All the entities of supply chain management including producers, vendors, warehouses, transportation companies, distribution centers, and retailers will have their computer window and they will enter the data and generate their hash at that point. This hash will help us to track the complete path and will play a key role in giving provenance services.
