A Motion Detecting System for Room Lights.
Project Area of Specialization Computer ScienceProject SummaryIn this project, we will try to control the ON/OFF mechanism of room lights. It will be based on detecting any kind of human motion inside the room. This motion will be detected even when there is no natural light inside the room.
Project ObjectivesThis project aims to be very helpful in the scenario when someone enters to the room/washroom/garage/stairs with no artificial light so the sensors will detect his motion and the light will switch states accordingly.
Project Implementation MethodThe implementation process is based on the following steps.
- This project is totally a sensor based project so we will illustrate the functionality of all these sensors which are using in our project.
- After studying the sensors, we will start arranging all the equipment’s needed in our project.
- In next step, we will do some small projects on our equipment’s just for the sake of understanding purpose.
- Then we will start working on our project by using Raspberry Pi and Arduino UNO.
- PIR sensor will detect the motion and will turn ON the light for a user defined time limit.
The major benefit of this project is that it will save you electricity bill to a larger extend, as there will be no electricity wastage.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableArduino UNO:
The Arduino Uno is an open-source microcontroller board based on the Microchip ATmega328P microcontroller and developed by Arduino.cc. The board is equipped with sets of digital and analog input/output pins that may be interfaced to various expansion boards and other circuits.
PIR sensor:
PIR sensors allow you to sense motion, almost always used to detect whether a human has moved in or out of the sensors range. They are small, inexpensive, low-power, easy to use and don't wear out.
5V Relay Module:
5V Relay Module is a relay interface board, it can be controlled directly by a wide range of microcontrollers such as Arduino, AVR, PIC, ARM and so on. It uses a low level triggered control signal (3.3-5VDC) to control the relay.
Resistor:
A resistor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that implements electrical resistance as a circuit element. In electronic circuits, resistors are used to reduce current flow, adjust signal levels, to divide voltages, bias active elements, and terminate transmission lines, among other uses.
Breadboard:
A breadboard is a rectangular plastic board with a bunch of tiny holes in it. These holes let you easily insert electronic components to prototype (meaning to build and test an early version of) an electronic circuit, like this one with a battery, switch, resistor, and an LED (light-emitting diode).
