Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThe existing systems consist of an electronic energy meter/electro-mechanical meter fixed in the premise for measuring the consumption of electricity. The meters currently in use are only capable of recording kWh units. The kWh units used have to be recorded by meter readers regularly. The recorded data needs to be processed by a meter reading company. For processing the meter reading, company needs to firstly link each recorded power usage datum to an account holder and then determine the amount owed by means of the specific tariff in use. Many e-metering systems have been proposed based on GSM, GPRS, Bluetooth .The GSM/GPRS enabled system is very convenient for sending data via SMS due to its good area coverage capability and cost effectiveness. The energy meter can be designed to have a unique identification number that will indicate the locality and consumer type as the billing system is different for different types of users. This number along with the consumed units of electricity can be sent with-out human intervention. The department can maintain a database to identify the type of location using this number and calculate the bill accordingly and send it to the user.
Project ObjectivesFollowing are the Aims and Objective of this Project
i) The purpose of this project is the far off tracking and manipulate of the home energy meter.
ii) Our goals includes: to layout a circuit which constantly monitors the meter reading and sends message to energy corporation .
iii) Programming of the GSM MODEM with AT command, interfacing the programmable chip with the private pc.
iv) Interfacing of GSM MODEM with the programmable chip, sending messages from the far.
Project Implementation Method- First make the circuit of Smart Meter
- Using Pzem-004T and CT to measure the parameters
- Display the parameters on LCD for consumer
- Connect GSM with Arduino.
- Send Data to Electric Corporation through GSM.
- It reduces the time,
- it reduces the human work force, will give accurate readings.
- This system replaces traditional energy meter reading methods and enables remote accessing of existing energy meter by the energy provider.
- They can monitor the readings regularly without visiting the person's house
The Smart Energy Meter produces the design and building a system that gives a solution to the measurement of energy and helps the local customers to save the power in an efficient manner. This project have introduced the design, realization, and testing a wireless monitoring system for measuring the energy consumption of electrical devices in the consumer's homes. The system consists of power consumption monitoring systems (smart meter) at customer homes and a control system for remotely reporting and handling the smart meter readings at the power distribution station. The server shows the readings from these meters system by means of a client visual interface continuously. An Arduino with pzem-004t is used in the meter for measuring the Current, Voltage, Power and Power Factor and GSM is used and a local server for communication. The client does not need to exert oneself to note their power use so as to control their behavior to decrease their energy usage and costs. The designed smart meter and a mechanical meter are tested in several experiments to indicate the differences in their features.
