Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryIn the era of unwanted circumstances we cannot risk our lives for the daily tasks assigned to us, like in this period of covid we all are unable to perform our daily tasks and if we wanted to that we are risking our lives but daily tasks too have significant importance in our life so to perform our daily tasks with no effect on health we are going to make a virtual Tele-presence robot prototype which is a gesture controlled robot having cameras to enable the experience of video conferencing and it allows the user (who is not present at the same place where the robot is present) to be at that place where the robot is present. We combined virtual reality with cameras to enable this experience and a speaker is also present to interact with audio.
Project ObjectivesObjective of this project is to develop a tele presence robot which provies real time 3D atmosphere to its users. Its core objective is to minimize health hazards and risks which are present in various fields like defense personnels can use this robot for real time surveillance without risking lives of soldiers and they can store all the realtime activities at the back end server for future use and doctors can use this robot to guide junior doctors at realtime without wasting time in this way life and time both can be saved.
Project Implementation MethodAfter examining number of alternate methods, our approach includes use of VR headset interfaced with Rpi4( Raspberry Pi 4) from which after accquiring data from cameras which are interfaced with rRpi4 to provide realtime experience.The cameras are attached on head of robot to provide realtime video stream of that place.To control the robotic movement we have intefaced MPU 6050 with arduino which uses angles for the movement of robot. All the stream is recorded in the web server which can be be accessed by facial recognition of authorized persons only.
Benefits of the ProjectIn defense this robot can be used for spying purposes and to get better understanding of unknown territory without risking lives of soldiers.
It can be used to go in those areas where humans can’t go because of high radiation level .
Miners can use this robot in process of mining to check the depth without sending the employees down there without risking their lives.
Doctors can use this robot in biomedical field where surgeon is unable to come in operation theatre because of un availability .
Technical Details of Final DeliverableVR headset and Raspberry pi with cameras are used for realtime experience.MPU 6050 and flex sensors is used for gesture control.H bridges are used for robotic movement.nRF sensor is used for wireless communication between robot and gesture glove.15000 mAH lithium polymer battery is used for powering up the robot and micro controllers. Arduino mega and nano is used as microcontrollers to interface sensors.Router is used for distant communication and video streaming.Front end web page is developed for user interference.
