Vehicle accident detection and rescue information system
Summary of the project:
In this project, an IoT (Internet of Things) based vehicle accident detection and rescue information system is developed in order to detect vehicle accident and sends the location information of the accident to the vehicle owner, nearest hospital and police station via a web service. The communication between the web server and hardware device is established via a Wi-Fi module, and the location is traced by using the GPS (Global Positioning System) module. The accident is detected through vibration sensor. The project is developed for real time data fetching form the hardware device using sensor and store in the web server, and sends notification to different users either through android mobile application. This project provides the accurate detection of the location of accident occurred, and send notification to the nearest police station and hospital.
The objectives of the project:
The main purpose of the vehicle accident detection and rescue information system is given as;
1. To instrument a system in which during the accident, it detects it by using vibration sensor.
2. To design an app for the hospital, police station and rescue team to get notification by using NodeMCU which contains Wi-Fi module.
3. To create a system by the GPS technology to send the position and location of the accident.
Project Implementation Method
This project consists of three portions.
1. Accident Detection
2. Location Tracking
3. Accident Notification
1 .Accident Detection
This module consists of a main device called vibration sensor. It will be used to detect accident in case of collision of vehicle to any infrastructure such as with another vehicle or may be any solid object. The vibration sensor is also known as a piezoelectric sensor. These sensors are elastic devices which are used for measuring and calculating different processes. This sensor utilizes the piezoelectric effects while calculating the changes within acceleration, pressure, temperature, force otherwise strain by varying to an electrical charge.
2. Location Tracking
This is second portion of this project in which location is determined and interpreted. In this portion location or geographical coordinates are extracted by using GPS module. This device mainly consists of two components which are NEO6M GPS module and a patch antenna. Patch antenna receives information of these three or four satellites and forward this information to NEO6M GPS module and NEO6M GPS module further forward this information to the firebase data where we can view the location of car. The patch antenna is connected to the NEO6M GPS module by a UFL connector and can easily be removed and inserted with the NEO6M GPS module. There has a built-in EEPROM on the board of NEO6M GPS module in which instructions are saved. There heart of module is a NEO6M GPS chip which is located at the center. EEPROM and a button cell together used to retain a clock and the last position that is GPS has fish. Basically it helps in our project to reduce the time to flight
3 Accident Notification Module
This is the last portion of the project in which the vehicle’s location and status will be sent through the Wi-Fi module present inside NodeMCU which is called ESP8266 Wi-Fi module. Firstly the notification of accident occurrence is sent to the data base of firebase and then sent to the mobile application which are given below
3.1 Web Server
When the accident occurs then the Wi-Fi module present in NodeMCU send information to the web server that accident has occurred at a place including the longitude and latitude of the position when vehicle has crashed. Generally web server acts as the transmission medium between vehicle and mobile application.
3.2 Mobile Application:A mobile application will be developed for better understanding and easy access to the location of vehicle and status of vehicle at any time at anywhere. Mobile application includes all the features present in the web server. When the accident occurs then mobile application receives information about the vehicle status and location from web server database. In mobile application, the location of vehicle is shown using a map so that rescue team can approach to place easily where accident has occurred.

By implimenting this rescue system the location and position of the vehicles can be found within seconds and the rescue team would go for first aid to the wounded people.Day-by-day the road accidents are increasing and the number of deaths are incresing. There needs to be a system that can respond to the road accidents as soon as possible.

The whole world is working on IoT based projects that's why it is a high time for us to work on IoT based project because they are very easy to use and implement them.
3. Real Time System:
This project is completly real time. It not only detects the accident but also shows the real time location.
This project will be composed of the following components which can make the project to work properly.
1. NodeMCU (ESP8266)
2. GPS module (GY-GPS6MV2)
3. Vibration Sensor (SW-420)
4. Header wires
The above components are described above are main components which will be used in this project. By combing them in a way which can perform the accident detection and an alert message to the police station or the rescue team or the place where the alert message would be received. You may be able to send the alert message to multiple locations depending upon the distance if the police station is near then the number should be assigned to the police station or the hospital is near the hospital number should be given during installation of the device.
The NodeMCU is the main component of this project. It is not only the hub of the project where every component is embedded but also is responsible to send the alert message by Wi-Fi signals. The NodeMCU is both receive the location through the GPS module and send the message by the Wi-Fi module embedded in NodeMCU per se.
One of the most important functions of this project is the detection of the accident. This function is performed by a device called vibration sensor. For detecting the vibration values according to our desire, a threshold is set so that it detects vibration values which are beyond threshold. This threshold is adjusted by the on-board potentiometer. In its working when there has no vibration then module logic LOW likewise when vibration values exceed beyond threshold then module logic HIGH.
