Project Summary

Facial expression is a nonverbal communication that easily conveying the social information or that tells what is the emotion and feeling of a person like happy, sad, angry, surprise, thinking and so on. People can easily understand the facial expression of other person. But it is difficult to understand the facial expression of children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurological and development disorder. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is an issue that influences a child's nervous system and development and advancement. It frequently appears during a child's initial 3 years of life. For detecting the emotion of children with ASD we made the "Unstable Children Emotion Detection System". in the project the we can detetc the emotion of unstable children. In this project we used many software the Anaconda, MySQL, Xammp and the Adobe Photoshop (CS3 10.0) program and python. There will be five emotional intensities. After this we trained the system and then detect the facial expression. By using deep learning technique keras the system recognizes the facial expression giving the better and accurate result. The main goal of the system is to detect the facial expression of unstable children with ASD as we knew eailier that children with ASD face difficulties in expressing their feeling  . The application is pre trained with images of children with ASD  detects the five emotions happy, sad, surprise, angry, neutral. . Anaconda use for implementations of pre defined library like TensorFlow  which helps in training of models. As we know spyder is pre installed in Anaconda Navigator we use Spyder for testing and debugging of images . This project will helpful for families and caretakers of child with ASD. We show children live camera and detect the face and recognize.

Project Objectives

The objectives of the project is the system will successfully detect the face  of the child and then successfully recognize the emotion of the child.

Project Implementation Method

Face recognition is an important application of Image processing owing to its use in many fields. The task of the proposed system is to capture the face of children and to store it in the database. The face of the children needs to be captured in such a manner that all the feature of the children. The project implementation steps are 

  • Take input image.
  • Trained images by Algorithms and Classifiers.
  • Detect face by Algorithms.
  • Extract features for identifying emotions.
  • Compare image with existing trained images in system.
  • Identify Emotion.
  • Give Result.

Benefits of the Project

As we know children with ASD has problems in recognizing things. They have difficulties in communicating with people. They cannot communicate with world in interactive way as the normal children do. They also have difficulty inn expressing their emotions. After developing this system, we will have the ability to recognize their expressions easily, frequently and accurately. The prevalent techniques and methodologies for detecting and recognizing face fail to overcome issues such as scaling, pose, illumination, variations, rotation, and occlusions. Main purpose of making this system is detecting accurately and frequently expressions of children. So that we can easily recognize what feelings is child with ASD wants to express as we knew they have issues in expressing feelings or anxiety issues.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

We are developing a system that can detect the facial expression of unstable children. The system will take the input image extract the feature and identify the emotion of children.

We are assuming that our project is based on image processing of input images then extraction of features from them to identify feeling child is holding or want to express. The system required these softwareAnaconda, Spyder, Python Language, SQL.to run the system. These software used to run the system and extract the feature to identify the emotions of children. There are  two table in the project first for admin who have all the authority of the project and in the admin table there is admin username and password. Second table is information which contain the information of child the fields are ID, first Nnme, last name, gender, age and address.
