So as we have increasing demand of wireless data we have increasing vulnerability of that data and we need energy to fuel all of this, in 2015
According to the centre for energy efficient communication the world consumes almost 43 terawatt hours just for accessing the wireless cloud which is equivalent to yearly energy consumption of Romania for 2015,but there is another aspect that also consumes a lot of energy like light. Light accounts for about 20% of all in building electricity consumption even with led’s that’s a lot of energy so we have that unprecedented demand for data we have growing vulnerability of that wireless communication , what if data and light uses same power by repurpose the energy that we use for illumination to provide wireless communications Li-Fi can offer this all and more. Li-Fi was first presented and demonstrated by professor Harald Haas at TED Global Talk in 2011 where he introduced the idea of “wireless data from every light” it refers to high speed, bi-directional, secure and networked wireless communication using light
Data Formating
Conversion of Data stream in to Light
Transmission of Light Pulses
Receiving Section
Conversion of Light to Data stream
Display of Data
The avoidance of the radio frequency spectrum crunch (10,000 times more capacity);
In streets for traffic control, cars have LED based headlights
Enabling very high peak data rates (10 Gbps)
The enabling of the Internet-of-Things (100 times more devices)
Significantly enhanced secure wireless communication (reduced interception of signals)
Enhanced energy-efficiency by combining data communication and illumination (100 times energy reduction)
Complete elimination of health concerns
Li-Fi can be used in homes, offices , industries, air planes
Upon successful compleion of this project a prototype would be presented which would enable us to save power as the energy that we use for illumination can now be used for both illumination aswell as wireless data transmission.
