Therefore, researchers are racing to develop technologies gun turret for defense and security interests that can be placed in tanks, armored vehicles, warships, and military aircraft. Several Control designs have been applied to control the gun-turret in a precise way. 

In our project “2 DOF PID Controlled Gun-Turret System”, we are using a joystick module for the rotation of gun in the desired position of Elevation and Azimuth axis.Two DC motors are mounted to move the gun in the direction of target, first motor for the azimuth and second for the elevation.We can set our desired position or target position by seeing the live video from a camera mounted on the Gun. After the Gun reached the desired point, the Gun is triggered by pressing the joystick module button.

Project Objectives

In hydraulic driven turret, gun is not stable and in our project we will stabilize the gun. Some drawbacks of hydraulic system are:

? High maintenance cost

? Complex system

? Compensated energy efficiency due to fluid flow resistance and leakage along fluid transmissions

The Hydraulic driven gun-turret system has a major drawback of damping. When the gun aims and fires the target, vibration or jerk produced as a result of fire damages the damper of hydraulic system.

Due to some major drawbacks of hydraulic driven mechanical system, there must be an electric system to stabilize the gun and track the target as well.

Project Implementation Method

? We will physically design our system.

? We will write a code on Arduino IDE for microcontroller.

? We will implement our electrical circuit on proteus and formulate the results.

? When mechanical design is ready we will pick up DC motors for controlling the angle of azimuth rotation and elevation.

? We will synchronize the microcontroller with DC motors.

? We will patch up all the components and testify it.

? After testifying the system, we will formulate the results.

Benefits of the Project

An automated Gun turret system would reduce the number of casualities in case of an armed conflict. The automated system may also provide better accuracy.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The control structure consists of Arduino Uno as control unit of system. Two 24V DC motors are used for the elevation and azimuth control of the gun. L298n (dual H-Bridge) controls the speed and direction control of two DC motors at a same time. The operating voltage of L298n module is 5V-35V.A joystick module is used for the rotation of gun in the desired position of Elevation and Azimuth axis.Desired position or target position can be set by seeing the live video from a camera mounted on the Gun. After the Gun reached the desired point, the Gun is triggered through Solenoid by pressing the joystick module button.
