Tracer

Project Area of Specialization Software EngineeringProject Summary

Social media platforms are changing the way organizations are communicating to the public conversations are happening all the time and everywhere.

There is need for a solution to timely and proactively made the organizations aware of the reactions and opinions expressed by their target audience when it relates to the specific product or service on a variety of subjects.

This project is centered across the data analytics techniques to listen and understand the consumer demand patterns and develop trends for predicting product demand and consumer behavioral metrices for certain commodities / services.

We will be utilizing proven data mining methodologies for extracting potential customers demand patterns and form large data sets. The biggest challenge for businesses operating in current era of advanced technologies in finding and tapping into ever changing consumer demand and target their customer when they are ready to make a buying decision.

This idea for this project was perceived with a question in mind, where to find your customers? The project revolves around the sentiment analysis through social media channels for user entered keywords. The aim of this project is to assist small and medium enterprises to save money they spending in finding the right market for their good and services. Instead this application will help them identify, group and target their market by actually knowing audience interest through their social interaction and leverage the organization an aggregated view of key trends. This will be a break-through product for marketers to find their customer as per their choices and target them via successful pull strategy instead of traditional push marketing.

The application has three main functional categories:

  1. User Input: User can enter the mobile name and model for searching, along with other parameters such as Date-Range, Co-ordinates etc.
  2. Analysis: The application will analyze the data attained from Twitter and specific Product websites of mobile.
  3. Data dashboards: user will be presented with a detailed dashboard showing trending topics, related topics, geographic data, demand patterns and possible upgrades.
  4. Competitive Analysis: The application will also generate a dashboard screen for competitors so that an analysis can be obtained against enter product versus the competing products.
  5. Maps: A map will be generated based on the location data of the post so that the potential areas can be recognized.
Project Objectives

Our application is a social media listening platforms at principle and we have named it “Tracer”. A social media/Product listening platform are solutions that gather data from various social media outlets and news sources. They monitor billions of conversations and generate text analytics based on predefined criteria. They can also determine the sentiment of a speaker or writer with respect to some topic or document.

The Tracer project will meet the following objectives:

Project Implementation Method

Our methodology and approach for this project will be a combination of prototyping, flowcharting and incremental development. faculty will be shown prototype or a small working version of feature for review so that once it got approved then full development will start. Similarly, we will be doing small versions (module) of whole project one by one covering various stages.

Phyton will be the development language of our choice. It is a widely used programming language that is especially suited for web-based applications and can be embedded into HTML. It supports Object Oriented Programming (OOP).

For development, our focus will be mainly on Object Oriented Development (OOP).  OOP is a programming paradigm that uses "objects" and their interactions to design applications and computer programs. Programming techniques may include features such as encapsulation, modularity, polymorphism, and inheritance.

Bottom-up approach will be followed which is about piecing together systems to give rise to grander systems, thus making the original systems sub-systems of the emergent system. Both OOP and bottom-up approach go hand in hand.

Dependencies of the applications will be defined i.e. which libraries or subsystems are needed, what are the connections between these, how are they initialized and configured and what libraries are the libraries depending on. Various groupware applications will be setup and configured for efficient team development.

Due to the nature of this website security of data will be of utmost importance. Throughout the system various standard security measures will be placed to ensure data and system is not compromised.

Benefits of the Project

The solution will support content coming from specific countries and geographical regions. Currently the system is focus on twitter and specific mobile product sites for Data gathering.

The solution will be able to gather data from the primary social media “Twitter” and specific product sites. It will be able to aggregate data from these channels and present them in graphical charts within a data dashboard.

The solution will provide real-time monitoring of relevant conversations. It will provide sentiment analysis (positive, negative or neutral) around keyword-based topics. It will be able to provide summaries or high-level overviews of a specific set of topics. It will have a configurable dashboard that can easily be accessed by internal analysts or management.

The solution will identify the competitors automatically if data is available in the product sites.
